Rams Fall to Mount Saint Mary in Conference Game

Mount Saint Mary - 59, Farmingdale State - 37


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team fell to Mount Saint Mary College in a Skyline Conference game this afternoon, 59-37. FSC fell to 2-10 overall and 2-5 in conference play, while the Knights improved to 9-4, 6-0.

After outscoring the Rams 14-4 in the first quarter, MSMC used a three-point play by sophomore guard Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) and back-to-back layups from senior center Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) over the first 1:26 of the second to take a 21-4 advantage.

FSC sophomore guard Destiny Hurt (Long Beach, N.Y.) answered with a 3-pointer and sophomore forward Alexis Hunter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) followed with a layup to close within 12, 21-9.

After a quick 6-2 run by the Knights, which saw a pair of 3's from freshman forward Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.), Hurt knocked down a jumper to cut the Farmingdale State deficit to 27-13.

Over the final 3:56 of the half, the Knights tallied six points while holding FSC scoreless as they entered the break leading, 33-13.

Mount Saint Mary used an 8-1 run over the first 5:04 of the third quarter to take a commanding 41-14 advantage. The Rams responded with a 5-0 run over the next 2:49, including four points from junior guard Nia Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.), but MSMC countered with four unanswered points to close the quarter to go in front, 45-19.

The Knights would outscore FSC 18-14 in the fourth quarter as they would go on for the 59-37 Skyline victory.

Hurt tallied a game-high 12 points to go along with seven rebounds, while Hunter recorded five points, 14 rebounds and one block for Farmingdale State. Miller registered nine points, three rebounds, three assists and a game-high five steals in the loss. 

Cleare finished with 12 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks and one steal, while Desrats and sophomore forward Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) had nine points each for Mount Saint Mary.

The Rams next travel to Skyline foe Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday, January 8th at 6:00 p.m.
