Rams Fall to Mount Union at NYU Holiday Classic

Mount Union - 78, Farmingdale State - 67


New York, N.Y. - At the final day of the NYU Holiday Classic on Sunday afternoon, Farmingdale State fell to the University of Mount Union, 78-67. The FSC women's basketball team dropped to 1-9 overall, while the Raiders improved to 10-2 on the year.

Mount Union led 11-9 midway through the first quarter and used 3's by both Tori Rappach (Warren, Ohio) and Meghan Hess (Cranberry Township, Penn.) to go out in front by eight. Farmingdale State entered the second trailing 19-14 and were outscored 22-8 in the quarter as the Raiders took a 41-22 lead into halftime.

Mount Union senior guard Rachel Tinkey (Canfield, Ohio) opened the third with a layup and 3-pointer to extend the Raiders' advantage to 46-22. Leading 54-34 with 3:18 left in the third, Hess connected on a 3 and sophomore guard Sarah Hessel (Avon Lake, Ohio) followed with a layup on the next Mount Union possession to go up by 25.

In the fourth, FSC outscored the Raiders 24-14 but fell in the non-conference matchup by 11, 78-67.

Junior guard Nia Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the way for Farmingdale State with a team-high 23 points to go along with nine assists and five rebounds, while sophomore guard Destiny Hurt (Long Beach, N.Y.) added 12 points.

For the Raiders, Rappach tallied a game-high 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting in the win.

The Rams now return to Skyline Conference action as they host Sarah Lawrence on Thursday, January 3rd at 3:00 p.m. on Staff and Student Appreciation Day.
