FSC Women's Basketball Falls at St. Joe's-Brooklyn

St. Joseph's-Brooklyn - 79, Farmingdale State - 59


Brooklyn, N.Y. - In their Skyline Conference opener, the Farmingdale State women's basketball team traveled to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Tuesday night and fell, 79-59. FSC dropped to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while the Bears improved to an even 2-2 (1-0 Skyline).

Leading 4-3 with 7:49 left in the first, St. Joe's-Brooklyn outscored Farmingdale State 14-2 over the next 5:47 to go out in front, 18-5. A Jami Cardenas (Bay Shore, N.Y.) 3-pointer ended the Bears' run but SCJ-BK's Victoria Porcasi (Franklin Square, N.Y.) answered with a 3 the next time down the court to keep the advantage at 13 late in the quarter.

The Rams opened the second with a Nia Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y.) 3 and a jumper from Christina Rayfield (Commack, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to nine before St. Joe's-Brooklyn responded with seven unanswered points to take a 32-16 lead with 5:43 on the clock. Over the final 3:55 of the quarter, FSC was outscored, 14-5, as the Bears took a 49-24 advantage into halftime.

Farmingdale State shot 36-percent from the floor (8-for-22) in the third quarter and entered the fourth trailing, 70-47.

The Bears held the Rams without a field goal until 4:42 remaining when Cardenas hit a 3-pointer to cut the SJC-BK lead to 77-53. St. Joe's Brooklyn went on for the 79-59 Skyline Conference victory.

For FSC, Miller finished with 20 points, six rebounds and game-high's in both assists (7) and steals (6). Rayfield and Cardenas each tallied nine points, while sophomore forward Alexis Hunter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had seven points and a team-high 10 boards.

The Bears had four double-digit scorers as they were led by Porcasi's 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 5-of-10 from behind the arc. Junior forward Lauren Quesada (Westbury, N.Y.) (15 points & 18 rebounds) and senior center Caitlyn Staab (Lynbrook, N.Y.) (13 points & 10 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles, while sophomore guard Kelly O'Donnell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 12 points in the win.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Albertus Magnus for a non-conference game on Thursday, November 29th at 7:00 p.m.
