Rams Record Home Win Over Purchase

Farmingdale State - 71, Purchase - 49


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team played host to Skyline opponent Purchase College this afternoon and earned a 71-49 victory. The Rams recorded assists on 25-of-27 made field goals in the win.

After Purchase (9-13, 5-11) opened the game with a 3-pointer, FSC (12-11, 11-5) followed with a 12-0 run which saw a pair of 3's from senior guard Liz Durchhalter (Franklin Square, N.Y.) to go out in front, 12-3, with 4:36 left in the first. Over the final 3:49 of the quarter, the Rams used two baskets by senior guard Kaelyn Ward (East Hampton, N.Y.) and a Durchhalter 3-pointer to open up a 19-11 advantage after one.

Leading 22-16 with 8:09 remaining in the half, Farmingdale State tallied 11 unanswered points to go ahead, 33-16. FSC went into the break leading 39-23 as Ward posted 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting and had five boards. For the Panthers, junior guard Amber Jones (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 13 points (6-of-10 shooting) and had eight rebounds in the first half.

PC sophomore guard Alfa DeJesus (Bronx, N.Y.) hit a layup to start the third before Antonacci knocked down back-to-back 3's to put FSC ahead by 20 at 45-25. The Rams led 50-29 with 5:23 remaining in the quarter and used a 9-2 run over the next 4:30 to extend the advantage to 59-31. Freshman guard Dejeana Peoples (New York, N.Y.) closed the quarter with a 3-pointer to pull Purchase to within 25 heading into the fourth.

The Panthers outscored Farmingdale State 15-12 in the fourth quarter but the Rams earned the 71-49 home victory.

Ward finished with a double-double on a team-high 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Durchhalter added 15 points, six rebounds and five assists. Senior forward Essence Casey (Huntington Station, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go along with six assists and junior guard Alexis Antonacci (Plainview, N.Y.) dished out a game-high seven assists.

Jones had game-highs in both points (25) and rebounds (13) for Purchase.

FSC next will travel to Mount Saint Vincent for a Skyline Conference game on Tuesday, February 13th at 7:00 p.m.
