#1 Amherst Remains Undefeated With Win Over FSC

#1 Amherst - 74, Farmingdale State - 34


Farmingdale, N.Y. - #1 ranked Amherst College improved to 6-0 this season after a 74-34 non-conference defeat of Farmingdale State this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. The FSC women's basketball team now stands at 2-6 on the season.

The Mammoths started quickly as they opened up a 12-1 advantage just over seven minutes into the first quarter.

After a pair of Essence Casey (Huntington Station, N.Y.) free-throws cut the deficit to nine, 12-3, Amherst sophomore guard Hannah Fox (Plymouth Meeting, Penn.) responded with a jumper to regain the 11-point lead, 14-3.

On the ensuing Farmingdale State possession, senior guard Kaelyn Ward (East Hampton, N.Y.) knocked down a 3 to close within eight, 14-6.

The Mammoths finished the quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 19-6 lead into the second quarter.

Trailing 28-8 midway through the second, a Casey layup and five straight points by Ward cut the deficit to 13, 28-15.

Amherst would lead 35-15 at the break after ending the quarter on a 7-0 run.

Leading 37-15 early in the third, Fox tallied back-to-back 3-pointers to open up a 43-15 advantage.

Down 56-23, Ward knocked down a jumper to cut the deficit to 56-25 but Fox quickly answered with another 3 to bring the Mammoths lead to 34, 59-25.

Amherst led 62-26 at the end of the third quarter and outscored FSC 12-8 in the fourth as they earned the non-conference victory, 74-34.

Ward finished with a team-high 14 points, while Casey totaled 11 points off the bench.

The Mammoths were led by Fox who produced a game-high 18 points along with three steals and six boards. Junior guard Emma McCarthy (Shelton, Conn.) recorded a double-double as she pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and scored 13 points in the victory.  

The Rams next host Skyline Conference opponent St. Joseph's-Long Island on Tuesday, December 5th at 6:00 p.m.
