Old Westbury - 94, Farmingdale State - 71
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team hosted Skyline Conference opponent Old Westbury this evening for their home opener and fell, 94-71. The Rams drop to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Panthers improve to 4-0, 2-0.
Trailing 9-5 midway through the first quarter, Old Westbury used an 8-1 run to take a 13-10 advantage.
After an Alexis Antonacci (Plainview, N.Y.) 3-pointer tied the game at 13-13, Panthers senior guard Destiny Marino (Howard Beach, N.Y.) scored four unanswered to open up a 17-13 OW lead.
Just over two minutes into the second quarter, Old Westbury sophomore guard Alexis Lopez (West Hempstead, N.Y.) drained a 3 to extend the Panthers advantage to eight, 27-19.
The Rams responded with an 11-3 run, which saw five points from senior forward Essence Casey (Huntington Station, N.Y.), to tie the game at 30-30.
Following a 7-2 Panthers run, Antonacci drained a 3 to cut the FSC deficit to just two, 37-35. After Old Westbury sophomore center Davida Warren (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied a layup, Antonacci hit another 3 to close within just one, 39-38.
Down 41-38 after a pair of free throws from sophomore guard Tyra Bellings (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Antonacci was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line as Farmingdale State took a 42-41 halftime advantage.
Antonacci recorded 23 points in the first half as she shot 5-for-6 from behind the arc and 6-of-7 at the line.
Tied at 49-49 in the third quarter, the Panthers used a 16-4 run to open up a commanding 12-point advantage, 65-53.
Old Westbury held a nine-point lead through three quarters, 71-62, and would outscore Farmingdale State 23-9 in the fourth as they earned the conference victory, 94-71.
Antonacci finished with a game-high 32 points, while Casey produced 10 points, five rebounds and four assists in defeat.
Old Westbury was led by junior center Charlotte Renker (Mineola, N.Y.) who totaled 22 points and a game-high 20 rebounds and Marino who recorded 18 points, five rebounds and three assists.
FSC next plays host to non-conference opponent #1 Amherst College on Saturday, December 2nd at 3:00 p.m.
