Brooklyn College - 76, Farmingdale State - 73 F/OT
Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team overcame a 20-point halftime deficit before eventually falling, 76-73, in overtime at Brooklyn College last night. The Rams now stand at 1-3 on the year, while the Bulldogs improved to a perfect 4-0.
Trailing 37-17 at the break, FSC senior guard Liz Durchhalter (Franklin Square, N.Y.) opened the third quarter with back-to-back 3's to quickly cut the deficit to 14. After an Alexandra Moogan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) jump shot on Brooklyn's next possession, senior guard Kaelyn Ward (East Hampton, N.Y.) rattled off eight straight points for the Rams to close within eight, 39-31, with 5:35 left in the third.
The Bulldogs held a 51-38 advantage before a 10-0 Farmingdale State run which saw a pair of 3-pointers from freshman guard Khandra Rhoden (Brentwood, N.Y.) cut their lead to three. After BC went back up by 10 with 6:31 remaining, Ward, junior guard Alexis Antonacci (Plainview, N.Y.) and senior forward Essence Casey (Huntington Station, N.Y.) each connected on 3's to pull the Rams within one, 60-59.
With 31 seconds left in regulation, a Casey layup and free-throw gave Farmingdale State a two-point edge until senior guard Karen Mak (New York, N.Y.) converted a pair of free-throws to tie the game and force overtime.
Tied 69-69 with 1:11 on the clock, freshman guard Taylor George (Whitehall, Penn.) hit a 3 after being set up by Mak to put Brooklyn out in front, 72-69. After each team scored on their next possession, Casey was fouled and made both free-throws to cut the FSC deficit to 74-73 with seven seconds remaining. The Bulldogs converted their final two foul shots of the game en route to the 76-73 victory.
Casey recorded a double-double with a game-high 22 points (8-for-19) and 11 rebounds, while Ward also had a double-double on 19 points and 10 boards. Antonacci picked up a game-high 11 assists and added nine points for the Rams.
Brooklyn was led by George's 22 points and Mak who had 12 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and seven steals.
FSC next will travel to Division I Stony Brook University for a non-conference game on Wednesday, November 22nd at noon.
