Rams Defeat Lyndon State in Amherst Tip-Off Consolation Game

Amherst, Mass. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team earned a 73-67 victory this afternoon over Lyndon State in the consolation game of the Amherst Women's Basketball Tip-Off Tournament held at LeFrak Gymnasium. The Rams picked up their first win of the season and stand at 1-2, while the Hornets dropped to 0-2.

Trailing 29-18 with 8:25 left to play in the second quarter, Farmingdale State used a 13-0 run over the next 2:38 which saw eight points from junior guard Alexis Antonacci (Plainview, N.Y.) and five by senior forward Essence Casey (Huntington Station, N.Y.) to take the two-point lead, 31-29.

Tied 35-35 late in the quarter, Antonacci connected on a 3-pointer and junior forward Carmela Gampero (Massapequa, N.Y.) converted a layup to put the Rams in front, 40-35. FSC took a 42-37 advantage into halftime after outscoring Lyndon State, 24-15, in the second quarter.

With 1:59 remaining in the third, a Casey layup and free-throw gave Farmingdale State a three-point lead but the Hornets closed the quarter with nine unanswered points to open up a 57-51 lead.

The Rams cut the deficit to 67-64 with less than 3:30 to play and used back-to-back scores by senior guard Kaelyn Ward (East Hampton, N.Y.) to go in front by one, 68-67. FSC would add the games final five points en route to the 73-67 victory.

Antonacci registered a season-high 19 points and added four assists, while Casey scored 15 points, had eight rebounds and four steals. Freshman guard Khandra Rhoden (Brentwood, N.Y.), who was named to the All-Tournament Team, scored six points, grabbed eight rebounds and had a game-high five steals. Ward fell one rebound short of a double-double as she tallied 12 points and nine boards in the win.

Lyndon State was led by senior guard Gabrielle Foy's (Wilton, ME) game-high 24 points and senior center Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, VT) who recorded a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

The Rams next will travel to Brooklyn College for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, November 21st at 5:00 p.m.
