Marino and Porcasi Lead St. Joe's-Brooklyn Past FSC

St. Joseph's-Brooklyn - 91, Farmingdale State - 81


Brooklyn, N.Y. - Junior guard Destiny Marino (Howard Beach, N.Y.) and sophomore guard Victoria Porcasi (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scored 23 and 19 points, respectively, leading St. Joseph's-Brooklyn to a 91-81 victory over Farmingdale State on Saturday. The FSC women's basketball team dropped to 11-9 overall and 9-5 in the Skyline.

Trailing 19-10 with 3:45 left in the first, St. Joe's-Brooklyn (7-13, 5-8) closed the quarter on an 11-2 run to even the score at 21-21.

The Bears held a two-point advantage midway through the second quarter, before FSC used a Charnae Jenkins (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) 3 and a layup from Chelsea May (Baldwin, N.Y.) to regain the lead, 31-28. The Rams took a 40-38 lead into halftime as Jenkins was 3-for-3 from behind the arc for a team-high nine first half points.

St. Joe's-Brooklyn outscored Farmingdale State 13-3 over the first 5:03 of the third to go ahead by eight, 51-43. After an AJ Smith (Freeport, N.Y.) 3-pointer with 27 seconds left in the quarter cut the FSC deficit to seven, the Bears closed the third with a Lauren Quesada (Westbury, N.Y.) layup to bring the lead to nine points at 62-53.

A Tyra Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) layup with 6:56 remaining pulled the Rams within eight but the Bears answered with a 7-2 run to extend the advantage to 76-63. Farmingdale State would trail by at least 10 the remainder of the game as they fell, 91-81.

Smith recorded a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Harrison and Essence Casey (Huntington Station, N.Y.) each had 16 points for FSC.

Quesada finished with a double-double of 19 points and a game-high 19 rebounds for St. Joe's-Brooklyn.

The Rams next will travel to Sage for a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday, February 8th at 6:00 p.m.
