Late Run Leads Rams Past Merchant Marine

Farmingdale State - 79, Merchant Marine - 58


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team improved to 9-3 in Skyline play with a 79-58 victory over Merchant Marine. The Rams now stand at 11-7 overall, while the Mariners fall to 9-8, 5-7 in conference play.

After the first quarter, Merchant Marine held a 16-14 edge before Farmingdale State used a 15-5 run in the early minutes of the second quarter to pull ahead, 29-21. The Rams would take a 33-30 advantage into the halftime break.

FSC pulled away in the third quarter as they shot 52-percent from the floor to lead 54-46. In the final quarter, Farmingdale State sank 6-of-8 3-pointers to cruise to the 21-point win.

Farmingdale had four players in double figures, led by sophomore forward AJ Smith (Freeport, N.Y.) with 16 points. Junior guard Kaelyn Ward (East Hampton, N.Y.) and junior guard Tyra Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) each chipped in with 15 points, while Harrison added a game-high five steals. Junior forward Essence Casey (Huntington Station, N.Y.) posted 12 points and six rebounds in the win.

The Rams will now travel to Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference game on Thursday, February 2nd at 7:00 p.m.
