FSC Defense Shines in Win Over St. Joe's-LI

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team defeated St. Joseph's-LI, 70-28, in a Skyline Conference game this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams defense held the Golden Eagles to 16-percent shooting (10-for-62) in the victory.

FSC (9-7, 7-3) had an early 6-4 lead and extended the advantage to 16-4 with a 10-0 run that saw points from four different players. After a 3 from sophomore guard Alicia Indence (Centereach, N.Y.) cut the SJC-LI (5-13, 4-7) deficit to 17-9, the Rams opened the second quarter on an 11-1 run to go ahead by 18, 28-10.

Farmingdale State took a 33-13 lead into the break after outscoring the Golden Eagles 16-4 in the second quarter. Junior forward Essence Casey (Huntington Station, N.Y.) led the way for the Rams with 10 points and eight rebounds in the first half.

The Rams started the third quarter with 10 unanswered points to quickly open up a 30-point advantage. After St. Joe's-LI responded with five points to cut the deficit to 43-18, FSC used 3's from Charnae Jenkins (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), Meghan Cleary (East Meadow, N.Y.) and Ahyana Green (Freeport, N.Y.) to take a 52-18 lead.

Farmingdale State entered the fourth with a 54-21 advantage and outscored the Golden Eagles 16-7 in the quarter en route to the 70-28 win. The Rams held St. Joe's-LI to single-digit scoring in each quarter.

Casey led all scorers with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while adding a team-high 12 rebounds and junior guard Tyra Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) added 14 points for FSC.

Freshman guard Juliana Cintron-Leonardo (Riverhead, N.Y.) tallied seven points and a game-high 19 boards for the Golden Eagles.

The Rams next will square off against Yeshiva (@ Baruch) in a Skyline Conference game on Sunday, January 29th at 1:00 p.m.
