FSC Notches Non-Conference Win Against Baruch

Farmingdale State - 65, Baruch - 54


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team hosted Baruch in non-conference game this afternoon and earned a 65-54 victory.

Trailing 14-13 with 1:40 remaining in the first, the Rams (8-7) closed the quarter on an 8-0 run to take a seven-point advantage, 21-14.

Over the first 5:53 of the second quarter, Farmingdale State outscored Baruch (8-9) 13-0 to extend the lead to 34-14. The Bearcats quickly answered with a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 34-24 with 46 seconds left in the quarter. FSC closed the second with a Jasmine Sapp (Islip, N.Y.) jump shot and a layup from Tyra Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) to take a 38-24 advantage into halftime.

Harrison led the way for the Rams with 12 first half points, while Shannon Barrett (Middle Village, N.Y.) had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Bearcats.

After a basket by Harrison put Farmingdale State on top 42-30 with 4:55 left in the third, Baruch answered with a 10-0 run over the next 2:40 to close within two, 42-40. On FSC's next trip down the floor, Smith hit a layup and free-throw to bring the advantage back to five.

Leading 47-42 entering the fourth quarter, the Rams opened with layups from both Harrison and Smith to go ahead, 51-42.

After back-to-back scores by Daniela Arias (Maspeth, N.Y.) cut the Bearcats deficit to 57-52, Farmingdale State responded with six straight points to take a 63-52 lead with 1:06 remaining. The Rams went on for the 65-54 non-conference win.

Harrison finished the afternoon with 20 points on 9-of-19 shooting, while senior forward Chelsea May (Baldwin, N.Y.) added 10 points (4-for-8) and eight rebounds.

Baruch was led by Barrett who recorded a double-double with 20 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Barrett and senior guard Veronica Ganzi (Glendale, N.Y.) combined for 35 of the teams 54 points.

FSC next will play host to St. Joseph's-LI in a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday, January 25th at 5:30 p.m.
