#2 Amherst Improves to 13-0 with Win at FSC

#2 Amherst - 49, Farmingdale State - 33


Farmingdale, N.Y. - #2 Amherst improved to 13-0 on the season after a 49-33 non-conference victory over Farmingdale State this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. The FSC women's basketball team now stands at 5-6 on the year.

Over the first 3:50, the Purple & White opened up a 13-0 advantage and extended that lead to 19-3 after one quarter. In a low scoring second quarter, Amherst outscored Farmingdale State 10-5 and took a 29-8 advantage into halftime.

Senior guard Jaimie Renner (Newton, Mass.) scored nine first half points on 3-of-5 shooting for the Purple & White, while senior guard Ali Doswell (Richmond, Va.) added eight points and four rebounds.

After Amherst scored the first basket in the third, the Rams answered with a 7-0 run, which saw a layup and 3-pointer from sophomore forward AJ Smith (Freeport, N.Y.), to cut the deficit to 31-15. The Purple & White answered with back-to-back 3's to bring the advantage to 22, 37-15.

The Rams trailed 39-18 entering the fourth and outscored Amherst 15-10 in the quarter but fell, 49-33.

Junior guard Tyra Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) tallied a team-high seven points, while Smith finished with five points and eight rebounds.

Doswell scored a game-high 11 points in the win for Amherst.

FSC will return to action tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. when they play host to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in a Skyline Conference game.
