Rams Drop Road Game at Mount Saint Mary

Mount Saint Mary - 51, Farmingdale State - 41


Newburgh, N.Y. - In a Skyline Conference women's basketball game today, Farmingdale State traveled to Mount Saint Mary and fell, 51-41. The Rams dropped to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in Skyline play, while the Knights improved to 9-3, 5-1.

Farmingdale State held a 20-11 lead early in the second quarter but Mount Saint Mary recorded eight straight points to close within one, 20-19, with 4:26 remaining. After a 3-pointer by sophomore forward AJ Smith (Freeport, N.Y.) brought the FSC lead back to four, the Knights closed the half on a 4-2 run as FSC went into the break leading, 25-23.

Trailing 32-29 with 5:30 left to play in the third, MSMC scored six unanswered points to take a 35-32 lead.

After a layup by junior guard Tyra Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) cut the FSC deficit to one, the Knights used a 5-0 run capped off with a 3 from Maite Gritsko (Milford, Conn.) to open up a 40-34 advantage.

With 5:23 remaining and the Rams down 44-38, Harrison connected on a 3-pointer but FSC was held scoreless the rest of the game as they fell, 51-41.

Smith scored a game-high 12 points after going 4-of-9 from behind the arc, while junior forward Essence Casey (Huntington Station, N.Y.) added 11 points for FSC.

Junior guard Bridget Kelly (Farmington, Conn.) tallied a team-leading nine points and had seven rebounds for the Knights.

The Rams next will play host to Old Westbury on Monday, January 9th at 6:00 p.m.
