Mount Saint Mary Earns First Round Victory Over FSC

#4 Mount Saint Mary - 71, #5 Farmingdale State - 52


Newburgh, N.Y. - The fifth-seeded Farmingdale State women's basketball team traveled to #4 Mount Saint Mary for the First Round of the Skyline Conference Playoffs and fell, 71-52. The Knights advanced to the Semifinals at #1 Sage on Thursday.

Mount Saint Mary (14-12) led 32-26 with 6:19 remaining in the second quarter, until FSC senior guard Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) hit a layup and free-throw after being fouled the cut the deficit in half. The Rams (9-17) followed with a 3-pointer by Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.) and a Tyra Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) layup to take a two-point lead, 34-32, with 2:28 left in the half. Farmingdale State took a 37-35 advantage into the halftime break.

After the Rams extended their lead to 44-39, Mount Saint Mary went on a 25-3 run to open up a 17-point advantage at 64-47 with 4:52 remaining in the game. The Knights allowed only five points the rest of the way en route to the 71-52 First Round victory.

Romero finished with a game-high 16 points and added five rebounds and three steals, while Harrison scored 12 points, had five rebounds and three assists for Farmingdale State.

Mount Saint Mary's Jessica Rina (Seaford, N.Y.) led the way for the Knights with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
