Rams Fall to Mount Saint Vincent on Senior Day

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team fell, 79-62, to Mount Saint Vincent in their final regular-season game this afternoon.

It was senior day at Farmingdale State as Aries Adams (Bronx, N.Y.), Nailah Cherry (Roosevelt, N.Y.), Amanda Masson (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.) and Karen Ulysse (West Hempstead, N.Y.) were each honored prior to tip-off before playing in their final regular-season home game.

Tied 12-12 with 2:01 left in the first, the Dolphins (17-8, 13-3) closed the quarter with three straight 3's to take a 21-12 lead after one.

Farmingdale State (9-16, 8-8) trailed 25-17 and used a Charnae Jenkins (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) 3-pointer and a layup and free-throw by sophomore guard Tyra Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to two, 25-23.

After Mount Saint Vincent extended their advantage to 36-28 with 2:33 remaining, the Rams closed out the first half with eight straight points to tie the game at 36-36. The Dolphins recorded assists on 13-of-14 made field goals in the first half.

Over the first 4:02 of the third quarter, Mount Saint Vincent outscored FSC 10-2 to open up an eight-point lead at 46-38. After a pair of Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) free-throws on Farmingdale State's next possession, the Dolphins responded with a 7-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at 53-40.

The Rams closed within eight, 55-47, but the Dolphins used an 8-0 run to go ahead, 63-47. Mount Saint Vincent held at least a 15-point lead the remainder of the way en route to the 79-62 victory.

Romero scored a game-high 18 points and had five steals, while Harrison pitched in with 17 points. Jenkins tallied 10 points and grabbed three rebounds in the loss.

Mount Saint Vincent was led by sophomore guard Kristen Merrell's (Staten Island, N.Y.) team-high 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting.

The Rams clinched the #5 seed for the upcoming Skyline Conference playoffs and will travel to #4 Mount Saint Mary on Tuesday, February 23rd for the First Round.
