Harrison Scores 45 in Win Over St. Joe's-L.I.

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State sophomore guard Tyra Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored a career-high 45 points as the women's basketball team earned a 69-60 victory over Skyline opponent St. Joseph's-LI this evening.

After the Golden Eagles (6-16, 3-10) opened up a 15-6 lead with 2:50 remaining in the first quarter, Harrison connected on a 3-pointer to cut the Rams (8-14, 7-6) deficit to six points. St. Joe's-L.I. held a 17-9 advantage before senior guard Camille Romero closed the quarter with a jump shot to pull the Rams back within six, 17-11.

Trailing 22-15 with 6:22 left in the first half, FSC used a 6-0 run over the next 1:45 to cut the Golden Eagles lead to 22-21. St. Joe's-L.I. outscored Farmingdale State 12-4 over the remainder of the second quarter and took a 34-25 advantage into the break.

The Golden Eagles scored the opening basket in the third quarter but the Rams answered with nine straight points to close within two, 36-34. After St. Joe's-L.I. regained a six-point advantage at 46-40, FSC used six consecutive points from Harrison to tie the game at 46-46 with 37 seconds left to play in the third.

St. Joe's-L.I. led 56-54 with 7:01 left on the clock before Farmingdale State went on a 9-0 run to open up a 63-56 lead. The Rams outscored the Golden Eagles 7-4 over the final 2:01 as they earned the 69-60 victory.

Harrison shot 16-of-29 from the floor, including 3-for-4 from 3-point range and 10-of-12 at the free-throw line, while also adding a game-high six steals. Harrison's 45 points moves her to third all-time at Farmingdale State for single game scoring. Kimberly Blakney holds the school record for 50 points in a game against Mount Saint Vincent on February 21st, 2009.

St. Joe's-L.I. was led by sophomore forward Andrea Iavarone (Miller Place, N.Y.) who recorded a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 18 rebounds.

The women's basketball team next will play host to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Saturday, February 13th at 5:00 p.m.
