Farmingdale State - 67, Mount Saint Mary - 60
Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State senior guard Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) scored 17 of her game-high 19 points in the second half as the women's basketball team earned a 67-60 victory over conference opponent Mount Saint Mary this afternoon.
Farmingdale State (7-13, 6-6) led 18-17 midway through the second quarter and used an Aries Adams (Bronx, N.Y.) layup to extend the advantage to three. After Mount Saint Mary (9-12, 7-6) responded with back-to-back scores, FSC sophomore guard Tyra Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) converted a layup to regain the lead for the Rams, 22-21, with 4:58 left in the first half.
The Knights trailed 24-23 with less than four minutes remaining in the third and scored the final four points of the half to take a 27-24 advantage into the break. Mount Saint Mary's Kayla Cleare (West Hempstead, N.Y.) led the way with eight first half points, while junior guard Charnae Jenkins (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and sophomore guard Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.) each scored five for Farmingdale State.
After Mount Saint Mary extended their lead to 33-26, the Rams responded with a 7-0 run which saw five points by Romero to tie the game at 33-33. With 1:08 left to play in the third and the Knights ahead 47-40, FSC closed the quarter with an Amanda Masson (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) layup and a Jenkins 3-pointer to close within two, 47-45.
Over the first 4:57 of the fourth quarter, Farmingdale State outscored Mount Saint Mary 13-2 to open up a 58-49 lead. The Knights could not cut the deficit to less than four over the final minutes as the Rams earned the 67-60 Skyline win.
Harrison finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and a game-high five assists, while Jenkins and Monaco each scored eight points.
Mount Saint Mary was led by sophomore forward Jessica Rini (Seaford, N.Y.) who recorded a double-double with team-high 17 points and 13 boards.
The Rams next will step out of conference play when they travel to Brooklyn College on Tuesday, February 9th at 6:00 p.m.
