#2 Amherst Cruises in Victory Over FSC

#2 Amherst - 70, Farmingdale State - 32


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team hosted #2 Amherst in a non-conference game this afternoon and fell, 70-32.

After Amherst (16-0) jumped out to an early 12-2 lead, sophomore guard Tyra Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) hit a 3 to cut the Rams (5-11) deficit to 12-5. The Purple & White closed the first quarter on a 13-2 run over the final 3:32 to open up a 25-7 advantage.

An 11-3 Amherst run to start the second quarter extended their lead to 26 points at 36-10 with 3:35 left in the first half. The Purple & White took a 41-12 lead into the break as eight different players scored in the half.

Leading 44-12, junior guard Ali Doswell (Richmond, Va.) connected on back-to-back 3's to put Amherst ahead, 50-12. FSC responded with a 9-0 run capped off by a Meghan Cleary (East Meadow, N.Y.) 3-pointer to bring the score to 50-21 with 3:43 remaining in the third quarter.

Farmingdale State went into the fourth trailing 54-24 and were outscored 16-8 in the final quarter as they dropped the non-conference game 70-32.

Harrison finished with a team-high 18 points for the Rams.

The Purple & White were led by sophomore forward Jackie Nagle (Colchester, Vt.) who recorded a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Doswell tallied a team-high 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

The Rams will now travel to Baruch College where they will face Yeshiva in a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday, January 20th at 8:00 p.m.
