Iavarone Leads Golden Eagles Past Farmingdale State

St. Joseph's-LI - 68, Farmingdale State - 48


Patchogue, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball traveled to St. Joseph's-LI on Tuesday night for a Skyline Conference game and fell, 68-48. Sophomore forward Andrea Iavarone (Miller Place, N.Y.) led the Golden Eagles to victory with a double-double of 23 points and 17 rebounds.

Trailing 17-11 with 8:44 remaining in the second quarter, the Rams (5-9, 4-3) used a Meghan Cleary (East Meadow, N.Y.) 3-pointer and a jump shot by Tyra Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) to close within one, 17-16. St. Joe's (4-10, 2-4) answered with a 10-0 run to take a 27-16 lead and went into halftime with a 30-22 advantage.

After the Golden Eagles increased their lead to 51-38, Farmingdale State hit two free-throws to cut the deficit to 11 with 56 seconds left in the third quarter. Over the next 7:20, the Golden Eagles used a 15-2 run to take their largest lead of the game at 66-42. St. Joe's went on for the 68-48 Skyline Conference victory.

The Rams were led by senior guard Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) who tallied a team-high 15 points, while Harrison scored 14 points and had nine rebounds.

FSC next will play host to first place Sage (8-0) on Saturday, January 16th at 1:00 p.m.
