Johnson & Wales Defeats FSC in Consolation Game

Scranton, Penn. - In the consolation game of the Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic, Johnson & Wales defeated the Rams 72-40 on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Farmingdale State women's basketball team dropped to 4-7 on the season.

Trailing 19-16 with 5:58 remaining in the second quarter, the Rams used a Karen Ulysse (West Hempstead, N.Y.) layup and a 3 from Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.) to go ahead by two, 21-19. After a Bobbie Whitehead (Brooklyn, N.Y.) jumper on Johnson & Wales' (8-1) next possession tied the game at 21-21, Monaco followed with a layup and free-throw to give the Rams a 3-point lead with 3:34 left in the quarter. The Wildcats closed the half on an 8-2 run and took a 29-26 lead into halftime.

Monaco led the way with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 3-for-7 from behind the arc in the first half.

Johnson & Wales outscored the Rams 21-5 in the third to open up a 21-point lead at 51-30. A strong fourth quarter led the Wildcats to a 72-40 victory in the consolation game.

Monaco finished with a career-high 21 points in the loss.

Junior guard Amber Edwards (Roxbury, Mass.) fell just shy of a triple-double with 15 points, 18 rebounds and eight assists for Johnson & Wales.

The Rams return to action on Monday, January 4th when they head to Mount Saint Mary for a Skyline Conference game at 5:00 p.m.
