Farmingdale State - 68, University of St. Joseph - 59
West Hartford, Conn. - After a season opening loss to Rhode Island College at the USJ Blue Jay Tip-Off Tournament, the Farmingdale State women's basketball team rebounded with a 68-59 victory over the host Blue Jays on Saturday.
Trailing 27-14 with 6:21 remaining in the second quarter, the Rams (1-1) used a 10-0 run over the next 3:23 to close within three, 27-24. USJ (0-2) junior guard Carlee Putnam (Niantic, Conn.) scored the final six points of the quarter for the Blue Jays as Farmingdale State went into halftime trailing 33-26.
Sophomore guard Marissa Monaco (Bohemia, N.Y.) started the third with a 3 and senior forward Nailah Cherry (Roosevelt, N.Y.) hit 1-of-2 at the free-throw line to cut the Farmingdale State deficit to three at 33-30.
USJ extended their advantage to 51-40 early in the fourth quarter, but the Rams responded with a 13-0 run highlighted by seven points from Harrison to take a 53-51 lead with 7:08 remaining.
Leading 60-59 with 2:40 left to play, Farmingdale State scored the final eight points of the game to earn the 68-59 non-conference win.
Harrison led all scorers with a career-high 32 points, while also adding four steals and four assists. Monaco recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds and Cherry finished with a game-high 17 boards for the Rams.
Putnam tallied a team-leading 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting for the Blue Jays.
Farmingdale State next will travel to William Paterson for a non-conference game on Wednesday, November 18th at 5:30 p.m.
