Dolphins Upset Rams for Skyline Title

#2 College of Mount Saint Vincent - 76, #1 Farmingdale State - 50


Farmingdale, N.Y. - Second-seeded College of Mount Saint Vincent captured the Skyline Conference Title this afternoon with a 76-50 victory over top-ranked Farmingdale State. Senior center Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) was named the MVP after recording a double-double with a game-high 23 points and 17 rebounds for the Dolphins.

Tied 6-6 in the opening minutes of play, Mount Saint Vincent (22-5) used a 22-2 run to open up a 28-8 advantage with 6:38 remaining. After the Rams (18-9) cut the deficit to 31-14, the Dolphins closed the half with a Fraser jump shot and a pair of free-throw's by Theresa Carey (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) to take a 35-14 lead into the break.

Mount Saint Vincent opened the second half with a 13-3 run to extend their lead to 48-17. The Dolphins led by as many as 37 late in the game en route to the 76-50 victory.

Junior guard Andrea Desvignes (Deer Park, N.Y.) scored a team-high 20 points and added five steals and five assists, while senior guard Nicole Lanteri (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Rams.

Sophomore guard Brittany Carroll (Staten Island, N.Y.) pitched in with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting, while sophomore guard Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) tallied a game-high 11 assists for Mount Saint Vincent.

The Dolphins will await word of their opponent during the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Selection Show on Monday, March 2nd at 2:30 p.m.
