Rams Defeat MSMC; Earn Second Win in Three Days Against Knights

Farmingdale State 62, Mount Saint Mary 49


Newburgh, N.Y. - In their second meeting in the last three days, the Farmingdale State women's basketball team traveled to Newburgh, N.Y. for a Skyline Conference game against Mount Saint Mary College. The Rams earned a 62-49 victory and improved to 13-8 overall and 8-0 in the conference.

Leading 19-15 with 7:05 remaining in the first half, the Rams used a Nailah Cherry (Roosevelt, N.Y.) layup and Nicole Lanteri (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) jump shot to extend their advantage to eight, 23-15. After the Knights cut the deficit to 25-23, Lanteri closed the half with a 3-pointer to give Farmingdale State a 28-23 lead at the break. 

Lanteri finished the first half with 11 points for the Rams, while freshman forward Jessica Rini (Seaford, N.Y.) collected 10 points for Mount Saint Mary.

Farmingdale State led 31-29 early in the second half, before a quick 6-2 run that saw a pair of Andrea Desvignes (Deer Park, N.Y.) 3's gave the Rams a 37-31 edge with 14:20 left to play.

An Audrey Pooley (Middletown, N.Y.) 3-pointer pulled the Knights within seven with 8:39 remaining but Farmingdale state answered with a Marlaina Sherman (Miller Place, N.Y.) jumper and Desvignes 3-pointer to take a 50-38 lead.
The Rams held at least a 10-point lead the remainder of the game en route to the 62-49 road victory.
Desvignes finished with a game-high 22 points including five 3-pointers, while Lanteri had 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Rini tallied a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards for Mount Saint Mary.
The Rams next will head to Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday, February 11th at 6:00 p.m.
