Desvignes' Game-Winning 3 Leads Rams Past Mount Saint Vincent

Farmingdale State - 67, Mount Saint Vincent - 64


Farmingdale, N.Y. - Junior guard Andrea Desvignes (Deer Park, N.Y.) hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 1.1 seconds remaining to lead Farmingdale State past Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline Conference women's basketball game this afternoon.

Trailing 53-51 with 7:01 remaining, Desvignes converted a pair at the free-throw line to tie the game at 53-53. The Dolphins (12-3, 3-1) led 57-54, before Desvignes hit a layup and free-throw after being fouled to again tie the game with less than five minutes left to play.

Mount Saint Vincent answered with a Christina Barone (Staten Island, N.Y.) 3-pointer and two Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) free-throw's to take a five point lead, 62-57. After Desvignes connected on a 3, Fraser converted a layup to give the Dolphins a 64-60 edge with 1:38 remaining. On Farmingdale State's (7-8, 3-0) next possession, senior guard Jeanette Spillane (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) hit a jumper to cut the deficit to 64-62.

After a pair of Desvignes free-throw's tied the game at 64-64, she hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 1.1 seconds left on the clock. A Mount Saint Vincent three quarter court shot fell short as the Rams earned the 67-64 victory.

Desvignes recorded a double-double with a game-high 25 points and 10 steals, while Spillane tallied her double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Junior forward Marlaina Sherman (Miller Place, N.Y.) scored eight points and blocked a game-high four shots in the win.

Mount Saint Vincent was led by Fraser's double-double of 22 points and 18 rebounds.

Farmingdale State next will travel to St. Joseph's for a conference game on Wednesday, January 21st at 7:00 p.m.
