Strong Second Half Leads Rams to Season Opening Victory

Farmingdale State - 82, Keystone - 72


Union, N.J. - Trailing by eight points at halftime, Farmingdale State outscored Keystone 52-34 in the second half en route to the 82-72 season opening victory at the Kean Classic in Union, N.J.

Trailing 22-18 with 7:14 left to play in the first half, a 3-pointer by senior guard Nicole Lanteri (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) followed by a Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) layup put the Rams ahead by one, 23-22. After Keystone tied the game at 25-25, the Giants closed the half on a 13-5 run and took a 38-30 advantage into the break.

Romero led Farmingdale State with nine points in the half, while senior guard Ashley Evans (Wooster, Ohio) had 18 points for Keystone.

Keystone extended their lead to 46-36 with 16:59 left to play, before Farmingdale State answered with a 15-0 run over the next 3:22 to go ahead by five, 51-46.

Tied 53-53, an 8-0 Rams run capped off by a Romero jump shot gave Farmingdale State a 61-53 edge with 9:31 remaining. The Giants responded with an 8-0 run of their own to again tie the game at 61-61.

Leading 71-69 with less than four minutes remaining, six straight Farmingdale State free-throw's put the game out of reach for a season opening win.

Romero recorded a team-high 24 points, while Lanteri posted a double-double with 18 points and 15 boards. Junior guard Andrea Desvignes (Deer Park, N.Y.) also had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and junior forward Marlaina Sherman (Miller Place, N.Y.) had 12 points after shooting 6-of-11 from the field for Farmingdale State.

Keystone was led by Evans who scored a game-high 32 points after shooting 50% (11-of-22) from the floor.

The Rams will play the second day of the Kean Classic tomorrow.
