Romero Leads Rams to Conference Win at Purchase

Farmingdale State - 78, Purchase - 62


Purchase, N.Y. - Junior guard Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) scored a career-high 29 points for the Rams as Farmingdale State earned a 78-62 victory at Purchase in their first Skyline Conference game of the season. The Rams improved to 2-4, 1-0, while the Panthers fell to 3-3, 0-1.

Leading 7-5 in the opening minutes, a 23-6 Farmingdale State run put the Rams on top 30-11 with 9:33 left to play in the first half. Purchase would trail by double-digits the entire half as the Rams went into the break with a 44-28 advantage. Romero led the way with 17 points after shooting 5-of-6 from the field in the first half.

Farmingdale State would increase their lead to as many as 22 points midway through the second half en route to the 78-62 road victory.

Romero led all scorers with 29 points after shooting 10-of-14 from the field, including a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range. Senior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) tallied 17 points, while junior guard Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) pitched in with 15 points. Junior guard Jeanette Spillane (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) and senior forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y.) each had a game-high 10 rebounds for Farmingdale State.

Sophomore forward Jazmin Garcia (Peekskill, N.Y.) led Purchase with a team-high 26 points.

The Rams next will play their first home game of the season against Medgar Evers on Saturday, January 4th at 1:00 p.m.
