Rams Selected to Repeat as Skyline Conference Champions

New York, N.Y. - Farmingdale State has been selected to defend its Skyline women's basketball title in voting conducted by the league's eight head coaches.

The Rams earned a pair of first-place votes and 42 overall points, with Mount Saint Mary and Old Westbury just behind with 41 and 40 points, respectively. MSMC earned three first-places votes, while OW garnered two votes for the top spot.

Farmingdale State welcomes back senior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) who earned First-Team All-Conference distinction last season as she averaged a team-high 17.0 points per game.

Senior forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y.) led the team in rebounds (8.5 per game) and blocks (1.2 per game) last season, while guard Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) enters her final year after being third on the team in scoring in 2012-13.

A pair of junior college transfers Jeanette Spillane (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) and Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) enter their first season at Farmingdale State. Spillane played two years at Suffolk Community College and Romero played at Alfred State.

Freshman guard Sade Holmes (Medford, N.Y.) begins her first season of collegiate basketball after earning All-League honors at Longwood High School. Freshman forward Chelsea May (Baldwin, N.Y.) is a 2013 graduate of Baldwin High School and should have an immediate impact for the Rams both offensively and defensively. 

The semifinals of the 2014 Skyline Women's Basketball Championship will be held on Thursday, February 27th, while the finals will be played on Saturday, March 1st.
