Rams Outlast NYU-Poly in Overtime

Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team defeated NYU-Poly, 70-66, in overtime last night in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Rams improved to 8-9 overall and 6-3 in conference play with the victory.

Trailing 40-32 early in the second half, an 11-0 Farmingdale State run put the Rams ahead by three, 43-32.

The Fighting Blue Jays (6-13, 3-6) held a 58-55 advantage with 3:05 left in regulation, before junior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) converted 1-of-2 at the free-throw line and senior guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) connected on a jumper to tie the game at 58-58. After an NYU-Poly miss on a 1-and-1 opportunity, Young hit a jump shot to put Farmingdale State ahead by two with 1:51 left on the clock. NYU-Poly's Shelby Bruns (Elko, Nev.) hit both at the line and the Rams were unable to score on their final possession sending the game to overtime, 60-60. 

Tied 62-62 in overtime, The Fighting Blue Jays scored on back-to-back possessions to take a 66-62 lead with 2:03 remaining. Farmingdale State scored the final eight points as they earned a 70-66 road victory.

Young recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Green added 10 points, four assists and four steals. Junior forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y.) tallied 10 points, eight boards and four steals for the Rams.

NYU-Poly was led by freshman guard Alyssa D'Apice (Carmel, N.Y.) and sophomore forward Catherine Thompson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) who each scored 17 points, while Bruns had 16 points, eight rebounds and four steals.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Mount Saint Vincent for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, February 2nd at 1:00 p.m.
