Scott Leads Old Westbury Past Rams

Old Westbury - 60, Farmingdale State - 55


Old Westbury, N.Y. - Junior forward DeAndra Scott (St. Albans, N.Y.) scored 17 points and had 17 rebounds as Old Westbury earned a 60-55 victory over Farmingdale State last night.

Trailing 13-12, a Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) 3-pointer and Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y.) jump shot put the Rams (6-9, 4-3) ahead 17-13 with 3:09 remaining in the first half. The Panthers (11-6, 6-2) closed the half on a 6-0 run and took a 19-17 lead into the break.

Old Westbury extended their lead to 39-33 with 9:00 left, before Farmingdale State scored six unanswered to tie the game at 39-39. A 13-5 Panthers run put Old Westbury ahead by eight, 52-44, with less than four minutes to play.

A pair of Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) free-throws and four straight points by Green cut the deficit to 52-50 with 2:06 left on the clock. Farmingdale State closed within one with under a minute to play, but six straight Old Westbury points sealed the victory.

Young finished with a game-high 19 points and added 10 rebounds, while Green had 12 points and five assists.

The Rams next will travel to Sage for a conference game on Saturday, January 26th at 1:00 p.m.
