Mount Saint Mary - 50, Farmingdale State - 47


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team fell to Mount Saint Mary College, 50-47, in a Skyline game tonight in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams drop to 4-7 overall, 2-2 in conference play, while the Knights improved to 8-7, 5-1.

In the first, Farmingdale held a 12-4 lead before an 11-2 MSMC run gave the Knights their first lead of the game, 15-14, with 7:54 left in the half. The Rams would gain the lead on the next posession and hold a 24-20 lead at the break.

Farmingdale built up an 11-point lead early in the second half, but Mount Saint Mary would regain the lead with eight minutes to play. With a score of 47-47 and 5:08 remaining, neither team would score until the Knights' sophomore guard Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) made a 3-point jump shot with 39 seconds on the clock to give her team a 50-47 advantage and the comeback victory.

Romao led her team with 13 points, while sophomore forward Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) finished with nine points and five rebounds. Junior forward Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) pulled down nine rebounds and scored eight for the Knights.

For the Rams, sophomore guard Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) scored a game-high 15 points, while junior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) and senior guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) each added 13 points. Junior forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y.) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

Farmingdale State will travel to face Skyline opponent St. Joseph's on Wednesday, January 16th at 5:00 p.m.
