Young Leads Rams Past John Jay

Huntingdon, Penn. - Junior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds as Farmingdale State defeated John Jay 58-56 in the consolation game of the Juniata College Holiday Tournament.

Trailing 38-33 early in the second half, a pair of Rams (4-4) layups and two free-throws by senior forward Siohban Purvis (Amityville, N.Y.) gave Farmingdale State a one point lead with 11:55 left to play.

The Rams held a 54-50 lead with 5:00 remaining, before a 3-pointer by senior forward Victoria Story (Brooklyn, N.Y.) cut John Jay's (4-6) deficit to 54-53. Young converted two free-throws before a Story 3-point basket tied the game at 56-56. Senior guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) scored the game-winning layup for the Rams with 1:21 on the clock as Farmingdale State picked up their second win of the season against the Bloodhounds.

Green scored 13 points and had five assists, while Purvis had 10 points and nine boards for the Rams.

John Jay was led by junior forward Jamecia Forsythe (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who scored a team-high 16 points and had 16 rebounds.

The Rams next will host No. 7 Amherst in a non-conference game on Tuesday, January 8th at 6:00 p.m.
