Rams Force a Win over Old Westbury

Farmingdale, N.Y. - After turning 31 forced turnovers into 31 points, the Farmingdale State women's basketball team opened their Skyline Conference schedule on Thursday night with a 66-47 win over Old Westbury (1-3, 0-1). The Rams now stand at 2-3 overall, 1-0 in conference play.

Farmingdale State jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead, while senior forward Siohban Purvis (Amityville, N.Y.) extended the Rams lead to 15 (18-3) with a pair of free-throws with 14:26 remaining in the half. Old Westbury answered with a 17-6 run over a 9:33 span to make it a 24-20 game and the halftime score would show Farmingdale leading 26-20.

Old Westbury chipped away early in the second-half and tied the game at 32-32 with a layup by junior guard DeAndra Scott (St. Albans, N.Y.). Farmingdale responded with a three by sophomore guard Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) to give the Rams the 35-32 lead with 14:43 left on the clock, and the Rams would lead the rest of the way, closing the final 6:42 on a 13-0 run. 

For the Panthers, Scott's 17 points led the team, while pulling down a game-high eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Clarissa Gallagher (Brooklyn, N.Y.) followed with 11 points, and senior guard Antoinette Jolly (Inwood, N.Y.) added seven rebounds and four steals. Freshman center Raven Price (Massapequa, N.Y.) totaled seven rebounds and two steals off the bench. 

Junior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) poured in a game-high 27 points, on 8-of-15 field goals and 9-for-12 from the line, along with five steals. Merrill finished with a game-high seven steals, as well as eight points and four assists. Junior forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y.) netted 10 points and pulled down eight boards, and senior guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) dished out a game-high seven assists. 

The Rams will face Purchase College next in another Skyline game on Wednesday, December 5th at 6:00 p.m.
