Rams Hold Off John Jay for First Win

Pittsford, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team picked up their first win of the season after a 49-47 win over John Jay in the consolation game of the Woodcliff Invitational hosted by St. John Fisher College.

Leading 24-20 in the opening minute of the second half, the Rams (1-3) used an 11-2 run to extend their advantage to 35-22 with 14:55 remaining. John Jay (1-2) cut the deficit to 40-32, before a Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y.) free throw and a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) put Farmingdale State back up by 12.

Trailing 49-42 with 44 seconds to play, John Jay scored the games final five points but the Rams held on for the 49-47 victory.

Junior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) led the way for Farmingdale State with a team-high 16 points and 10 boards, while senior guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) scored 11 points. Savadel added seven points and 10 rebounds in the victory.

Danielle Eagan had 16 points, while Jamecia Forsythe and Victoria Story each tallied 10 points for John Jay.

The Rams next will host Old Westbury in their first Skyline Conference game of the season on Thursday, November 29th at 6:00 p.m.
