Rams Slotted Second in Skyline Women's Basketball Preseason Poll

New York, N.Y. – Two-time defending champion Mount Saint Mary has been selected by the slimmest of margins to capture the 2012-13 Skyline women's basketball crown in voting conducted by the league's eight head coaches.

The Knights earned four first-place votes and amassed 46 points, while 2011-12 runner-up Farmingdale State garnered four first-place votes and 45 overall points. Old Westbury finished third with 36 points, followed by St. Joseph's-L.I. (31), Sage (25), Mount Saint Vincent (17), NYU-Poly (16) and Purchase (8).

After posting a 13-1 mark in Skyline play and 25-4 overall record last season, MSMC welcomes back junior forward Rachel Perrone (6.8 ppg.), who averaged 6.1 rebounds per game in 2011-12, and senior guard Becky Metzger (3.3 ppg.). Senior guard Nikita Green (7.0 ppg.) started 21 games a year ago for Farmingdale State, which has reached the finals of the Skyline Championship in each of the past nine seasons. Among Old Westbury's four returning starters is 2011-12 Skyline Rookie of the Year Clarissa Gallagher (9.3 pgg.).

The semifinals of the 2012-13 Skyline Women's Basketball Championship will be held on Thursday, Feb. 21, while the finals will be played on Saturday, Feb. 23.
