Women's Basketball Season Recap


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The women's basketball team finished the season with a 15-10 overall record and were 12-2 in the Skyline Conference. The Rams were the No.2 seed in the playoffs and defeated Old Westbury in the semifinals to clinch their ninth consecutive trip to the Skyline Finals. Farmingdale State traveled to Mount Saint Mary College and fell, 58-43, in the championship game.

Senior forward Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y.) received First Team All-Conference honors after averaging 7.1 points per game and 7.0 rebounds a game.

Junior guard Baytania Newman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the team in scoring as she averaged 14.2 points and shot 51% from the field. Junior guards Jeanette Zubizarreta (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) averaged 8.4 and 7.0 points, respectively.

Senior guard Kayla Koch (Kings Park, N.Y.) played 24 minutes a game and averaged 7.8 points, while senior forward Natasha Smalls (Harlem, N.Y.) grabbed 6.4 rebounds per game and was ranked fifth in the Skyline with 1.5 blocks a game.

The Rams will be returning eight players for the upcoming season.
