- Cunningham Garners Second Team All-Met Honors -
New York, N.Y. - April Smith of William Paterson was named 2011-12 All-Met Division III women’s college basketball player of the year Tuesday by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
Erin Monahan of William Paterson was selected coach of the year for a third time.
Joining Smith on the All-Met first team: BriAnna Lucas, William Paterson; Jillian Barrett, Stevens; Jessica Duleba, Baruch; Kendra Johnson, Rutgers-Newark; Jen Mocanu, Mount Saint Mary.
The All-Met second team: Deslyn Applewhaite, Old Westbury; Amanda De La Cruz, Lehman; Kristin Markoe, Hunter; Melissa Tobie, Montclair State; Danielle Barber, Drew; Dominique Cunningham, Farmingdale State; Jen Vasta, Centenary.
Cunningham was a 1st Team All-Skyline selection this season, after posting a team-leading seven rebounds per game. She was the only player on the team to start all 25 games, while scoring in double-figures in points five times. She also scored in double-figures in rebounds six times and tallied two double-doubles this year. From the free throw line, she shot 70.3 percent. In the conference, she ranked second for offensive rebounds, 8th for Rebounding, 9th for Steals.
The All-Met players and coach will be honored at the 79th NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner on April 26 at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, N.Y.
