Rams Advance to Skyline Championship Game for 9th Straight Season

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team advances to the Skyline Championship game with a 69-55 victory over Old Westbury (18-7) tonight. The #2 seed Rams (15-9) will face top-seed Mount Saint Mary on Saturday, February 25th at 2:30 p.m. in Newburgh, N.Y. This marks the 9th straight season of these two teams meeting in the Finals.

In the first half, Farmingdale State started with a quick 9-0 advantage, before the Panthers grabbed their first lead, 20-19, with 3:10 left. But the Rams ended the half with eight unanswered points to hold the 27-20 edge at the break.

In the second, Old Westbury kept it to within five points until the 9:27 mark, but Farmingdale State would pull away and roll to the semifinal win.

The Rams were led by junior guard Baytania Newman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with a game-high 28 points, 12 rebounds and seven steals. Senior forward Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y.) finished with a game-high 13 rebounds, nine points and two blocks. Junior guards Jeanette Zubizarreta (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) each scored 12 points.

For the Panthers, sophomore guard Deslyn Applewhaite (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 15 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore guard DeAndra Scott (Queens, N.Y.) had a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
