Rams Fall to Wesleyan at NYU New Year's Classic

New York, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team was held to 10 second half points as they fell, 50-37, to Wesleyan University in the opening game of the NYU New Year's Classic at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan. The Rams are now 3-4 on the year, while the Cardinals improved to 6-2.

Trailing 18-17 with 4:09 remaining in the first half, junior guard Jeanette Zubizarreta (Bay Shore, N.Y.) hit a 3-pointer to regain the lead for Farmingdale State. The Rams would score the final six points of the half and take a 27-19 advantage into the break.

Wesleyan started the second half on an 11-0 run to take a 30-27 lead and quickly erase the halftime deficit. The Rams closed within three points, trailing 36-33, after a pair of free-throws by Janel Monah (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and a layup by Siohban Purvis (Amityville, N.Y.) with 9:10 to play. The Cardinals answered with a 10-2 run highlighted by eight points from sophomore guard Jenna Klaes (Amherst, Mass.) to seal the victory.

Farmingdale State was led by senior forward Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y.) who recorded a double-double with a game high 13 points and 14 rebounds. 

The Rams will face Oswego State this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in the second game of the NYU New Year's Classic.
