Cunningham and Green Lead Rams to Overtime Victory

Farmingdale State - 66, Old Westbury - 62 (OT)


Farmingdale, N.Y. - Senior forward Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y.) and junior guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) scored eight of the teams 12 overtime points to lead Farmingdale State to a 66-62 victory over conference rival Old Westbury tonight in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams improved to 3-3, 2-0 in the Skyline with the win, while the Panthers fell to 2-4, 1-1.

In the first half, Old Westbury was up by four before a 10-2 run put the Rams up 12-8 with 14 minutes left. The Panthers responded with seven straight points over three minutes to take back the lead 15-12, but Farmingdale bounced back to build up a seven point cushion at the half, 27-20.

In the second, the Rams led by as much as 11 points at the halfway mark, while the Panthers chipped away and saw the deficit diminish to two points with 1:43 on the clock. A layup by sophomore guard DeAndra Scott (Queens, N.Y.) tied the game at 52-52.

Senior forward Kayla Koch (Kings Park, N.Y.) was fouled on the Rams' next possession and made two free throws to give Farmingdale a 54-52 lead. Old Westbury sophomore guard Kim Weathers (Wyandanch, N.Y.) was then fouled and made her two shots for another tie score, 43-43, with 43 seconds left on the clock.

No shots would fall in the finals ticks, sending the game into overtime where Cunningham and Green would see the Rams to victory.

Cunningham scored a game-high 17 points and pulled down six rebounds, while Green finished with 16, including four three-pointers, four steals and four assists.

For Old Westbury, Weathers finished with 16 points and seven steals. Scott had 13 points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Denise Zajonc (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored 12 points.

The Rams take a break for the holidays and resume play on January 2-3 at the NYU New Year's Classic.
