Hooks Scores Career-High in Win Over Oswego

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team (3-3) defeated the Lakers of Oswego Sate (4-4) 66-57 today in Farmingdale, N.Y. Freshman guard Shemique Hooks (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury) scored a career-high 30 points and completed a double-double with a team-high of 12 rebounds.

The Rams ended the first half leading 29-28 led by Hooks who scored a team high with 11 points and six rebounds. Junior guard Kim Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) recorded 10 points and four rebounds, while Lakers freshman forward Kayla Ryan (Schaghticoke, N.Y./Hoosick Valley) led all scorers with 15 points. 

In the second half, Farmingdale State pulled away with a 13-point lead behind Hooks' eight of the Rams 17 points, making the score 45-32 with 14:18 remaining. Oswego made a comeback, cutting the Rams lead to four points with 3:55 remaining, but sophomore guard Janel Monah (Westbury, N.Y./Westbury)made four successful free throws as Farmingdale quickly increased their lead and held on for the win.

The Lakers' Ryan finished with a double-double, tallying 28 points and 14 rebounds, while teammate Heather Merino (Queensbury, N.Y./Lake George) added 20 points and seven rebounds.  For the Rams, Blakney ended with 14 total points, six rebounds, six assists and seven steals, while junior forward Gabrielle Green (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) had 11 points and five rebounds. 

Farmingdale plays next on Tuesday, December 16th at home against New Jersey City College at 6:00 pm. The men's game will  follow at 8:00 pm.
