Women's Basketball End of Season Report

The women’s basketball team finished with a 23-6 record and advanced to the Skyline Finals for the second straight season. After earning an ECAC bid as a number four seed in the Metro Region tournament, the Rams lost to eventual champions NYU by a scored of 80-70. Senior Sharon Billips was named WIAC MVP, Skyline 1st Team, D3Hoops All-Region, All-Met 1st Team and ECAC 1st Team. Freshman I’shawna West was named Skyline Rookie of the Year and WIAC Rookie of the Year, while Coach Mooney was named WIAC Coach of the Year. The Rams will lose three seniors, Sharon Billips, Taisha Roberts and Shakeema Speaks but will return eight players for next season.
Sharon Billips Named ECAC Metro First Team All-Star

To cap off a tremendous two-year career at Farmingdale, senior forward Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) picked up multiple post-season awards for her play during the 2004-05 season. Billips was recently selected to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro First-Team on March 23rd, which was selected by a vote of the ECAC coaches. Sharon was ranked third in the nation in scoring at 22.3 points per game and posted a season-high 20 rebounds.
Sharon Billips and Kenny McMillan Named to D3Hoops All-Region Teams

STERLING, Va. -- D3hoops.com has announced the fourth annual D3hoops.com All-Region team for Division III men’s and women’s basketball.
Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, who were contacted several times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. A record 606 players were nominated nationwide.
The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for 10 players in their region. SIDs voted for six frontcourt players and four backcourt players and the top vote-getters at each position were named to the All-Region team.
"We are thankful to the Sports Information Directors across Division III who took the time to nominate and vote to provide broader recognition to these worthy student-athletes," said D3hoops.com publisher Pat Coleman. "Participation continues to grow each year and that only strengthens the team."
Senior forward Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) was named First Team All-Atlantic Region. Sharon is ranked third in the nation in scoring at 22.3 points per game, was named the Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) MVP and All-Skyline First Team. During the season, She was named Skyline Player of the Week four times, WIAC Player of the Week seven times, ECAC player of the week twice, D3Hoops.com team of the week member once and was consistently seen on the Met Basketball and Skyline honor roll this season. Sharon scored a total of 648 points this season and was ranked in 8-of-9 Skyline statistical categories – leading the conference in scoring and blocks. She finished the season shooting .476 FG%, .283 3FG%, and .710 FT%, with single game season-highs of 31 points, 20 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 blocks.
Junior forward Kenny McMillan (Bronx, NY/All Hallows) was selected First Team All-Atlantic Region. Kenny was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Year after helping the Rams to an 18-7 regular-season record and a perfect 14-0 mark in Skyline Conference play. McMillan ranks 4th in the nation for steals (3.4 per game) and 14th in the nation for rebounding (10.9 per game). He led the conference in both rebounding and steals, while ranking third in field-goal percentage (.549) and fourth in scoring (18.4 points). In 29 games, McMillan recorded 15 double-doubles. He scored his 1,000th career point on Jan. 29 in just his third season and has 1,232 points to date.
Farmingdale State Dominates WIAC Awards

The Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) awards were released on March 8th, 2005 and three Farmingdale State student-athletes and the head coach were honored with awards. Senior Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) was named the WIAC Conference MVP after finishing the conference games averaging 23.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 blocks per game. Freshman I’shawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) was named WIAC Rookie of the Year after finishing her rookie season averaging 17.3 points and 4.0 rebounds. Freshman Dankery Perez (Manhattan, NY/Manhattan Center) was named to the WIAC Second Team as she averaged team-highs of 18 steals (4.5 per game) and 21 assists (5.3 per game) in WIAC matches, along with 7.0 points per game. Coach Chris Mooney was named the WIAC Coach of the Year as he led the Rams to a 4-0 WIAC record and their third consecutive WIAC Championship.

The Rams lost 80-70 at the hands of 22nd ranked NYU in the semifinals of the ECAC Metro Tournament on Friday night, March 4th at the Coles Sports Center in New York, NY. Farmingdale finished the season with a 23-6 overall record, while eventual ECAC Metro Champion NYU moved onto the ECAC Metro Tournament final with a record of 22-5.
The Rams were not going down without a fight to the nationally ranked squad, trailing 40-38 at the half after hitting 7-of-16 from three-point land. The second half would not come as easily with Farmingdale shooting 9-for-30 with only one three, falling to NYU by ten points. Senior’s Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) and Taisha Roberts (New York, NY/Murry Bergtraum) led the Rams in scoring in their final career game. Billips totaled a game-high 22 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, while Roberts netted 12 points and sunk 5-of-6 free throws. Junior Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock Regional) scored 15 points and had four steals.
Three players for NYU recorded double-doubles. Rachel Wojdowski (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) and Katie Higier (Miami, FL/Miami Senior) , both scored 21 points, with Wojdowski adding 13 rebounds. Karen Bachman (Avon, CT/Avon) chipped in 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Stephanie Huhn (Toms River, NJ/Toms North) finished with 11 points and 11 boards.
Rams Move on to ECAC Semi's after Triple Overtime Thriller

Farmingdale State (23-5) seniors Taisha Roberts (Manhattan, NY/Murry Bergtraum) and Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) keep the Rams alive with a triple overtime 96-90 win against Stevens (18-10) to advance to the ECAC Semifinal round. Roberts sunk the game-tying shot in regulation to tie the score at 65 and send the game into the first overtime. She then sunk the game-tying lay-up to send the Rams to double-overtime at 78 all. Farmingdale once again trailed as the time ran down in the second overtime, before Billips knocked down an NBA-range three pointer with 5 seconds remaining to send the game to triple OT. The Rams would take the victory as they outscored Stevens 8-2 in the third OT with Billips scoring five of the final eight points.
Billips finished with game-highs of 26 points and 20 rebounds, while Roberts tallied 11 points and five rebounds. Junior Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock Regional) scored 22 for Farmingdale and grabbed nine boards. Angela Williams (New York, NY/Murry Bergtraum) and Caress Lovelace (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) both chipped in 10 points.
Junior forward Jenna Gambino (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa Academy) led the Ducks with 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Jean Matusiak (Queens, NY/Christ the King Reg.) scored 18 points and dished out eight assists. Kelsea Wilks (El Sobrante, CA/Salesian) totaled 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The Rams will now travel to New York City to face NYU in the ECAC Division III Metro Semifinal round of the tournament on Friday, March 4th at 6:00 p.m.
Sharon Billips and I’shawna West Pick up Skyline Honors

The All-Skyline Conference Women’s Basketball teams were announced Tuesday, March 1, 2005 with two members of the Farmingdale State team receiving honors.
Senior forward Sharon Billips, who finished third in the nation in scoring with 22.2 points per game, was named First Team All-Skyline. Billips was no stranger to awards this season, being named Skyline Player of the Week four times, ECAC player of the week twice, D3Hoops.com Team of the Week member once, Met Basketball Player of the Week once and was consistently seen on the Met Basketball and Skyline Honor Roll. Sharon scored a total of 536 points during the regular season and was ranked in 8-of-9 Skyline statistical categories – leading the conference in scoring and blocks.
Freshman guard I’shawna West, who averaged 13.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 steals, was selected as the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year. West, who was selected Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week six times during the season, ranked sixth in the conference in scoring, 3-point field goals made and steals. She also ranked eighth in 3-point field-goal percentage. West scored 340 total points, scoring 20 or more points on seven occasions this season.
Men’s and Women’s Basketball Receive ECAC Bids

The Farmingdale State men’s and women’s basketball teams will extend the 2004-05 season after both received ECAC bids and will be hosting the first round games. The men have been seeded #3 in the Metro region and will host #6 Kean University. The women were seeded #4 in the region and will host #5 Stevens. The games will be played as a double-header on Wednesday, March 2nd at 6:00pm (women) and 8:00pm (men).
The winner of the men’s game will play the winner of the #2 Lehman - #7 NYU match-up in the semifinal round on Friday, March 4th at the highest seed with the finals to be played on Saturday, March 5th at the highest remaining seed.
The winner of the women’s game will play the winner of the #1 NYU - #8 Drew in the semifinals on Friday, March 4th at the highest seed, while the Finals will be played on Saturday, March 5th at the highest remaining seed.
Sharon Billips Named Met Basketball Player of the Week

Senior forward Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) was named the Met Basketball Player of the Week on February 28, 2005. Billips averaged a double-double of 21.3 points, 10 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.3 blocks over the week for Farmingdale. The Rams' run through the Skyline Conference tournament led them to wins over SUNY Old Westbury 75-72 and Stevens 60-57, before a loss in the conference championship game to Mount Saint Mary 75-60. In that title game, Billips finished with a team-high 22 points and 16 rebounds. She also tallied 18 points and seven boards against Old Westbury and 24 points and seven rebounds against Stevens. Farmingdale will next host Stevens Tech in the ECAC Metro Division III playoffs.
Mount Saint Mary College Women Advance to NCAA Tourney for Sixth Straight Season

(Newburgh, NY) Story by Brian Granata, MSMC SID – Top-seeded Mount Saint Mary College pulled away from No. 2 seed Farmingdale State University down the stretch en route to posting a 75-60 victory in the Skyline Conference Tournament championship game at the Kaplan Center in Newburgh. The 25th-ranked Blue Knights (27-1) have now won six straight Skyline titles and will head to the NCAA Division III Championships for the sixth year in a row.
Senior Oneisha Staples (Newburgh, NY) led all scorers with 28 points on 10-for-18 shooting from the floor. Sophomore LaSheena Brown (Rockville Centre, NY) tallied 12 points and nine rebounds. Senior Nneka Cruse (Highland Falls, NY) posted a double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds). Sophomore Annie Cossolini (Fanwood, NJ) hit three critical three-pointers and finished with nine points and nine rebounds.
For Farmingdale (22-5), senior Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY) had a team-high 22 points and 16 rebounds. Freshman I’shawna West (Hempstead, NY) added 14 points on 4-for-7 shooting from downtown.
Mount Saint Mary, which never trailed in the game, shook off a slow start to open a 13-point lead late in the first half when junior Kellie Stuart (Massapequa Park, NY) drained consecutive three-pointers. The Rams responded with five straight points to trim the deficit to 34-26 at the break.
The Blue Knights were once again unable to pull away from FSU early in the second half as the Rams cut the Mount’s lead to 44-40 with 13:01 remaining on a three-pointer by Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH). MSMC responded with nine straight points in the span of 1:27 courtesy of two three-pointers by Cossolini and one by Staples as the Blue Knights stretched the lead to 53-40 with 11:34 to go. After Farmingdale moved to within 55-51 with 7:42 left in the game, Mount Saint Mary went on an 8-1 run to open a 63-53 lead with just over five minutes to play.
Mount Saint Mary has now won 63 straight Skyline games (including playoffs) since the women’s league began in 1999-00. The Blue Knights, which are ranked No. 1 in the Atlantic Region, have won a school-best 21 straight games this season and will find out their NCAA future during a telephone press conference on Sunday at 10:00 p.m.
Billips Last Seconds Heroics Lead Rams to Skyline Finals

Farmingdale State tonight advanced to the Skyline Conference Finals as they defeated Stevens 60-57 on a last second three-point play by Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay). Billips scored off a feed from Dankery Perez (Manhattan, NY/Manhattan Center) with three seconds left and completed the three-point play sending the Rams to face Mt. St. Mary¹s for the second year in a row in the finals.
Farmingdale (23-4,12-1) tied the score at 57 on a Kristin Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock) three-pointer with just over one minute remaining and regained control of the ball on a Jenea Lockley (Roslyn, NY/Roslyn) steal with 27 seconds left. Lockley then intercepted the ball at halfcourt with one second on the clock to secure the victory.
Billips scored a game-high 24 points and added 7 rebounds for the Rams. Perez finished with 16 points and 5 steals while Lockely and Taisha Roberts (Manhattan, NY/Murry Bergtraum) each grabbed 8 rebounds for Farmingdale.
Jenna Gambino (Staten Island, NY/St. Johns Villa Academy) led Stevens (18-10, 9-4) with 23 points and 10 rebounds and Dora Enright (Longmont, Co/Longmont) added 19 points and 9 rebounds in defeat.
Farmingdale plays at defending champion Mt. St. Mary's at 8pm tomorrow night with the winner gaining an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship Tournament.

The Rams led by two points at the half and held on throughout the second for the victory. Farmingdale’s Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Caress Lovelace (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) totaled 15 points for the Rams. Old Westbury’s Rachele Yambeye (Elmont, NY/Elmont) had an outstanding game with 22 points and 15 rebounds, while Christina Squillante (Levittown, NY/Division Ave.) scored a game-high 25 points.
Farmingdale will host #3 seed Stevens on Thursday, February 24th at 6:00pm before the men’s team hosts Manhattanville at 8:00pm.

The Rams moved to 20-4 on the season with a 93-60 victory over visiting New York City College of Technology (12-11). Farmingdale used a 22-5 run in the first half to go up 18 points with seven minutes remaining. The Rams led 48-27 at the half and would hold the lead throughout for their final victory in regular season play. Senior’s Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay), Taisha Roberts (Manhattan, NY/Murry Bergtraum) and Shakeema Speaks (Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) played in their final regular season home game for the Rams.
Freshman I’shawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) led Farmingdale with 20 points and six rebounds. Billips (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) finished with 19 points, seven boards and three blocks.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Camille Manning (Queens, NY/W.C. Bryant) with game-highs of 26 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 10-of-12 from the charity stripe. Nicola Clarke (Queens, NY/John Adams) contributed 12 points for City Tech.
The Rams will begin the Skyline Playoffs on Tuesday, February 22nd at home at 6:00pm - opponent to be announced over the weekend. Farmingdale is currently the #2 seed in the women’s bracket.
Women’s Basketball Takes WIAC Championship for 3rd Consecutive Season

The Rams defeated the College of St. Elizabeth’s on Tuesday night 90-44 to improve to 19-4, 4-0 in the WIAC (Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). Farmingdale State is now the WIAC Champions for the third consecutive season. Senior Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) nearly completed a triple-double as she led the Rams with 28 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and three blocks. Junior Angela Williams (New York, NY/Murry Bergtraum) finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks for Farmingdale, while Freshman Dankery Perez (Manhattan, NY/Manhattan Center) finished with a season-high 11 assists, along with four steals.
St. Elizabeth’s Mary Kate Lanzo (Caldwell, NJ/Montclair Kimberly) finished with 12 points and three assists. Mary Doolan (Bayonne, NJ/Holy Family Acad.) totaled nine points.
The Rams will host their final regular season game tonight against NYCCT at 6:00pm, followed by the men’s team vs. NYCCT at 8:00pm. We will also be honoring our eight graduating seniors tonight before each game.

Farmingdale State (18-4, 12-1) picked up another conference victory with an 80-44 win over visiting St. Joseph’s (7-16, 2-9) in the first game of a Valentine’s Day double-header. Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) led the scoring for the Rams with 23 points and nine rebounds.
Jenea Lockley (Roslyn, NY/Roslyn) posted a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Dankery Perez (Manhattan, NY/Manhattan Center) finished with 12 points and six assists.
Jessie Brennan (Shirley, NY/Longwood) scored 10 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots for the Golden Eagles. Kelly Murphy (Remsenburg, NY/Eastport) finished with nine points and a team leading four assists.

Farmingdale State improved to 17-4, 11-1 Skyline with an 84-15 victory over Maritime College. Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) led the Rams with 23 points and nine rebounds, along with 4 others in double figures. Jenea Lockley (Roslyn, NY/Roslyn) and Angela Williams (New York, NY/Murry Bergtraum) finished with double-doubles for Farmingdale. Lockley had 15 points, 11 boards and six blocks, while Williams tallied 12 points, 10 boards and two blocks.
Kimberly Lund (North Rockland, NY/North Rockland) scored 11 points for the Privateers. Jeanette Golson (Brooklyn, NY/Transit Tech) finished with four points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
The Rams return to action in a home double-header starting at 6:00pm against St. Joseph’s College on Valentines Day, February 14th.

Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) continued her scoring frenzy as she led Farmingdale State (16-4) with a game-high 31 points in an 81-65 win over visiting Briarcliffe College. Billips added eight rebounds, four assists and four blocks for the night. Jenea Lockley (Roslyn, NY/Roslyn) finished with 14 points and seven rebounds for Farmingdale and Ishawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) totaled 13 points.
Toni Jones (Brooklyn, NY) scored 26 points for the Seahawks, while Jessica Rourke (Riverhead, NY) finished with 15 points. Marvasia Boldon (Elmont, NY) just missed a double-double with 16 rebounds and nine points.
The Rams will host Maritime College on Thursday night at 7:00pm in a conference game.
Women’s Basketball Wins at Old Westbury

The Rams picked up another conference win against Old Westbury last night 63-58. Farmingdale State improved to 15-4 overall, 10-1 Skyline, while the Panthers fell to 7-13 overall, 3-8 Skyline. Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) led the scoring for the Rams with 29 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Angela Williams (New York, NY/Murry Bergtraum) chipped in 11 points.
Christina Squillante finished with 19 points for Old Westbury. Ashley Embry notched 15 points and 11 boards.
The Rams will have a break until next Tuesday, February 8th when they host Briarcliffe College at 7:00pm.
Rams Win Close Game at Centenary

The women’s basketball team faced Centenary College (4-11) on Saturday, January 29th and came home with a 87-78 conference victory, improving their record to 14-4 overall, 9-1 Skyline. Farmingdale’s I’shawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) scored a game-high 22 points, followed by Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) with 18 points and three blocks. Jenea Lockley (Roslyn, NY/Roslyn) finished with a double-double of 13 points and 18 rebounds for the Rams, along with a game-high four blocks.
Solaris Ortiz was the star for Centenary with 17 points and 17 rebounds, while Laura Feigus finished with 19 points and went 3-for-5 from three point range.
The Rams travel to Old Westbury on Tuesday, February 1st for a conference game at 7:00pm.

The Rams traveled to York College last night for a non-conference game and came home with an 81-52 victory. Farmingdale is now 13-4 overall, while York's record fell to 4-11. Senior Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) led the Rams in scoring with 21 points, sophomore Jenea Lockley (Roslyn, NY/Roslyn) finished with 15 points and freshman I’shawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) scored 14 points, including 4 three-pointers.
Leaders for York were Jenny Deida with 17 points and Angela Mells with 16 points.
Farmingdale will return to action on Saturday, January 29th when they face Centenary College for a conference game at 2:00pm.

Farmingdale State (12-4, 8-1) hosted Old Westbury (7-9, 3-4) in a Skyline Conference game today and came away with another victory, 82-35. Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) was the leader of four Rams who scored in double figures. She finished with 27 points, seven boards, five blocks and four assists. Farmingdale held a 20-point lead at the half, 36-16, and would outscore Old Westbury 25-7 in the 13 minutes of play.
Junior Angela Williams (New York, NY/Murry Bergtraum) finished with 11 points, six rebounds and five blocks for the Rams. Sophomore Jenea Lockley (Roslyn, NY/Roslyn) had 10 points, five rebounds and five blocks, while freshman I’shawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) chipped in 10 points. Caress Lovelace (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) almost completed the double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Old Westbury’s Christina Squillante (Levittown, NY/Division) led the team with nine points. She also blocked five shots and grabbed six rebounds. Kareemah Bennett (Brooklyn, NY/E. Brooklyn Congreg.) tallied a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Rams will travel to York College on Monday, January 24th for a non-conference contest at 6:30 pm.

Farmingdale State Women’s Basketball improved to 11-4 overall, 7-1 Skyline last night with a 59-50 win over Stevens (9-6, 2-2). The Rams 10-point lead at halftime was the deciding factor in the game after Stevens took the second half 27-26. Farmingdale’s Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) led the scoring with 17, while Angela Williams (New York, NY/Murry Bergtraum) led the team in rebounding with 12. Jenea Lockley (Roslyn, NY/Roslyn) finished with 11 points, two blocks and eight rebounds for the Rams.
Dora Enright led for Stevens with 12 points and 10 boards, while Jenna Gambino finished with 12 points and 9 rebounds.
Farmingdale will return to action as they host SUNY rival Old Westbury on Saturday, January 22nd for a conference game at Noon.

The women’s basketball team traveled to John Jay College for a non-conference game on Sunday afternoon. Farmingdale State had a 41-19 lead at the half and never looked back to improve to a 10-4 overall record. Senior Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) was the high scorer for the Rams with 22 points. Sophomore Jenea Lockley (Roslyn, NY/Roslyn) finished with 10 rebounds, 7 points and 3 blocks for Farmingdale.
Junior Angela Williams (New York, NY/Murry Bergtraum) had 16 points and went 4-for-7 from three-point range. Junior Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock Reg.) led the team in assists with eight and contributed 13 points. Freshman I’shawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) totaled 15 points and six assists.
John Jay was led by Julianne Dixon with 14 points and Loveth Ogude with 14 rebounds.

Rams Lose Close Game to Conference Rival Mount Saint Mary

Farmingdale State’s (9-4, 6-1 Skyline) 25-game home win streak was snapped after a disappointing 65-61 loss to the Mount Saint Mary College Blue Knights (12-1, 6-0 Skyline) on Saturday afternoon. The Rams took a 33-29 lead into the locker room and led up until the 7:07 mark in the second when Kellie Stuart (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) sunk two free throws for the 52-51 MSMC lead. Nneka Cruse (Highland Falls, NY/James I. O’Neill) added two more points for MSMC with a lay-up at 6:30, before Stuart hit her only three of the game at 6:00 to increase the lead to 57-51. Farmingdale’s Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) retaliated with two quick lay-ups, cutting the lead to two, but the Blue Knights held on through the final minutes and will now move into first place in the Skyline Conference.
Mount Saint Mary’s LaSheena Brown (Rockville Centre, NY/Malverne) totaled game-highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds. Oneisha Staples (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) finished with 17 points, seven boards and nine assists.
Farmingdale junior Angela Williams (New York, NY/Murry Bergtraum) scored 18 points and was 4-for-8 from three point range. Senior Sharon Billips finished with 13 points.

Women’s Hoops Rolls to 6-0 Skyline Record

After only leading by three at the half, 31-28, Farmingdale (9-3, 6-0) rolled to a 70-50 victory over the Merchant Marine Academy (6-7, 2-3) in yesterday’s Skyline Conference action. The Rams were led by junior Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock Reg.) with a game-high 18 points, including 5-for-10 from behind the arc. Sophomore Caress Lovelace (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) finished with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
For the Mariners, freshman May Marie Hayes totaled 15 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. Andrea Carey had 8 points and 10 rebounds.
Farmingdale will host conference rival Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday at 2:00pm. Mount Saint Mary is riding a 47-0 regular season conference win streak and has won five straight conference championships.
Dankery Perez Named Rams Athlete of the Week

Freshman point guard Dankery Perez is named Athlete of the Week after she came up big in the Rams 71-68 win over Wilkes University. She finished with 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and six steals. In the final three minutes, Dankery put the Rams ahead for the first time all game, as she was 3-for-3 from the floor, had 2 steals and sunk 2-of-2 free throws with 25 seconds left.

Farmingdale State defeated St. Joseph’s College 93-39 in a Skyline Conference and WIAC game. The Rams improve to 8-3, 5-0 Skyline, 2-0 WIAC while the Eagles fell to 2-9, 0-2 Skyline, 0-3 WIAC. Senior Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) finished with 22 points, 4 blocks, 7 steals and 7 rebounds for the Rams. Sophomore Caress Lovelace (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) totaled 14 points and 7 boards. Junior transfer Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock Reg.) had 13 points.
St. Joseph’s Kelly Murphy led the team with 13 points, while Katie Dornemann tallied 8 points and 7 rebounds.

Perez Scores Eight in Final Minutes to Put Rams on Top

The Rams improved to 7-3 overall with their second half comeback victory over Wilkes University (3-9). Trailing 38-23 at the half, Farmingdale went off in the second scoring 48 points to take a 71-68 decision. Freshman Dankery Perez (Manhattan, NY/Manhattan Center) put the Rams ahead for the first time all game after scoring eight of her total 13 points in the final three minutes. She went 3-for-3 from the floor, had two steals and sunk 2 free throws with 25 seconds left. Farmingdale’s Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) finished with game-highs of 27 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman I’shawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) shot 4-for-8 from behind the arc for the Rams, finishing with 14 points.
Wilkes was led by Karyn Perestam with 22 points and nine rebounds and Rena Bolin with eight points, six rebounds, five assists and seven steals.

Rams Stunned in Final Minutes by Montclair State

The Rams fell to 6-3 overall after Montclair State’s Stephanie Machin (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) connected on a lay-up with nine seconds remaining to lift the Red Hawks to a 66-64 victory. Farmingdale led 32-22 at the half and throughout the second, before Montclair closed to within a point with 6:27 remaining and then again with 42 seconds to go.
Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) scored a game-high 14 points on the Rams side, with four other players in double figures. Angela Williams (New York, NY/Murry Bergtraum) finished with a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds. Taisha Roberts (Manhattan, NY/Murry Bergtraum) tallied 11 points and was perfect (6-6) at the free throw line. Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock Regional) and Caress Lovelace (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) both chipped in 10 points.
Montclair was led by Machin's four points in the final minute of the game. She finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Michelle Madej (Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills) contributed 12 points, while Jessica Garrabrant (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) had 9 points and 13 rebounds.

Farmingdale Basketball Ends Semester on a High Note

The Men’s and Women’s Basketball players at Farmingdale State have received many awards this semester for their exceptional performances on the court. As the fall semester comes to an end, the women’s team is 6-2 overall, 4-0 Skyline while the men’s team stands at 5-3, 2-0 Skyline. For the week of December 20th, four of our student-athletes picked up Player and Rookie of the Week honors in our respective conferences and were also named to the Honor Roll for the Met Basketball Writer’s Association.
Brandon Nieves (Harlem, NY/All Hallows) and I’shawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) were named the Skyline Rookie’s of the Week. Brandon averaged 11.3 points in three games for the Rams last week. He was named to the all-tournament team at the Keystone College Holiday Tournament, averaging 14.0 points in helping the Rams to the championship game. Nieves scored a team-leading 16 points against Keystone in the final.
West continues her torrid scoring pace. She has been named Rookie of the Week three times in the Skyline Conference and four times in the Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) during the first four weeks of the season. West, who ranks second in the conference in scoring, finished with a game-high 22 points in only 19 minutes in the Rams’ 78-33 win over CCNY. For the season, West is currently averaging 18.8 points and 2.13 3-pointers per game. Farmingdale State has won six straight games to climb atop the Skyline Conference standings.
Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay), who leads the Skyline Conference in scoring, was named to the Skyline and Met Basketball Honor Roll and was named Player of the Week in the WIAC for the fourth consecutive time. In the Rams only game this week, Billips continued her outstanding play against CCNY. With only three assists shy of a triple-double, Billips posted 18 points, 14 boards and 3 blocks. Sharon has shown her consistency this season as she is averaging 23.3 points and 8.6 rebounds.
Junior Kenny McMillan (Bronx, NY/All Hallows) was also on the Skyline and Met Basketball Honor Roll. Kenny averaged 20.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.3 steals in three games for the Rams. He was named to the all-tournament team, along with Nieves, at the Keystone Holiday Tournament.
The Rams have finished the first half of the 2004-2005 schedule and will resume play after break. The women will tip-off in 2005 at Montclair State on January 6th at 7:00 p.m. The men will travel to St. Joseph’s College for a conference game on January 10th at 7:00 p.m.

The Rams (6-2) finished the fall semester on a six-game win streak, after a 78-33 win over CCNY (1-7). Freshman I’shawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) led Farmingdale with 22 points. Senior Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) nearly completed a triple-double as she recorded 18 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists. Billips also added three blocks. Angela Williams (New York, NY/Murry Bergtraum) was the third Ram to finish in double digits with 10 points.
City College was led by two of their seniors. Anclin Perez (Brooklyn, NY/Bushwick) posted 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, while Kimberly Neos (Queens, NY/St. Mary’s) finished with 14 points and three steals.

Billips and West Take WIAC Awards for Third Consecutive Week

Senior Sharon Billips and freshman I'shawna West were named Player and Rookie of the Week in the Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the third consecutive time this season.
Billips was named Player of the Week after averaging 27.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, Billips has led the Rams on a five–game winning streak with her outstanding statistics. This past week she totaled 55 points in two games to along with 15 boards. The Rams scoring leader notched a 25 point performance against Merchant Marine and dropped 30 points against Maritime College.
I’shawna West was named Rookie of the Week for the third straight time along with her fellow teammate. This past week, she totaled 27 points with eight rebounds and eight steals. When playing against Maritime, West scored 20 points in only 23 minutes of play. West finished the week averaging 13.5 points per game, four rebounds and four steals per game.

Senior forward Sharon Billips is racking up the awards this season. On November 30th, she was named to the D3Hoops Team of the Week for her numbers in the season-opening Tournament at NYU. This week, she was named both Skyline and WIAC Player of the Week, along with ECAC Metro Player of the Week honors. Billips averaged 21.3 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 92 percent from the free-throw line in a 3-0 week for Farmingdale State. Sharon currently leads the Skyline Conference in scoring, had 26 points against New Jersey City and then contributed a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds in the Rams’ 66-56 win over Manhattanville.

Women Improve to 2-0 in the Skyline after Defeating Manhattanville

The Rams defeated Manhattanville College 66-56 in todays home Skyline Conference game. Farmingdale improved to 3-2, 2-0 Skyline, while the Valiants fell to 1-4, 0-1 Skyline. Manhattanville was plagued by turnovers with 36 as the Rams tallied 20 steals. Angela Williams (New York, NY/Murry Bergtraum) and Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) combined for 20 points in the first half to give the Rams a 29-23 lead. Billips finished with game highs of 18 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks. Williams totaled 16 points, including three three’s.
Farmingdale freshman I'shawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) contributed 14 points and Kristen Tong (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock Regional) finished with a game-high seven steals. Caress Lovelace (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) had nine rebounds (8 offensive) and seven points.

I'shawna West Named Skyline Rookie of the Week

Freshman guard I'shawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) was named Skyline Rookie of the Week on November 29th. I'shawna averaged 21.5 points and 6.0 rebounds as Farmingdale State opened its season at the New York University Invitational. After scoring 11 points and pulling down eight rebounds against Cortland State in her collegiate debut, West poured in 32 points on 8-for-19 shooting from three-point territory against Staten Island. She is averaging a conference-leading five 3-pointers per game.
Billips Named All-Tourney at NYU Invitational

The Rams (0-2) fell 75-72 to the College of Staten Island (1-1) in the consolation round of the NYU Invitational on Saturday. Farmingdale's Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) was named to the NYU All-Tournament team. Freshman guard Ishawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) led Farmingdale with a game-high 32 points. Billips finished the game with 26 points and 10 rebounds.

Women Fall 55-56 in Final Seconds to Cortland State

Junior Dani Maye (Kirkwood, NY/Windsor) made two free throws with nine seconds remaining to give Cortland State a 56-55 victory over Farmingdale State in the first round of the NYU Invitational. The Rams played well against the top "also receiving votes" team in the D3Hoops.com pre-season Division III Top 25 poll as they only committed eight turnovers to Cortlands 21. Cortland (1-0) will face the nationally third-ranked host Violets in the championship game on Saturday at 8 p.m. NYU defeated Staten Island 84-54 in the tournament opener.
Senior forward Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) led Farmingdale (0-1) with 23 points. Freshman Ishawna West (Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Rams.
The Rams will face Staten Island in the consolation game on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Men's and Women's Basketball Season Openers

The men's and women's basketball teams will open the 2004-05 season this weekend. The men's team will be traveling to Salem, Virginia to take part in the Salem Bank and Trust Tournament at Roanoke College. The women will be traveling to NYU to compete in the NYU Tip-Off Tournament. The Skyline preseason poll was released on November 17th with the women ranking 2nd and the men ranking 4th by the Skyline opposing coaches.
The women's opener will take place on Friday at 8pm against Cortland State. NYU and Staten Island tip off at 6pm. NYU is currently ranked 3rd in the D3Hoops.com preseason women's poll. The championship or consolation game will be played on Saturday at 6 or 8pm.
The men open up against Roanoke College on Saturday at 7pm, while the tourney starts with Goucher and Kenyon College at 5pm. The championship or consolation game is on Sunday at 1pm or 3pm.
