In their first season in the Skyline Conference, the Women’s Basketball team had a successful season, making it to the Skyline Championship game and receiving a bid to the ECAC Tournament. They finished the season with an overall record of 20-7, including 12-2 in the Skyline. Farmingdale picked up their first Skyline post-season victories against St. Joseph’s and Manhattanville. After a tough loss to Mt. St. Mary’s in the Skyline Finals, the women were chosen as the #5 seed in the ECAC Division III Metro Region, where they faced the eventual Metro Division Champions Drew University. This marked the second consecutive year the Rams earned a post-season berth as last year’s team was selected to the NCAA Championship Tournament.
Individually, the team was led by seniors Karen King and Danielle Houpe, as well as junior Sharon Billips and sophomore Angela Williams. King averaged a team best 7.6 rebounds per game and 55 blocked shots, along with 11.2 points per game. Houpe was the team leader in assists and steals and finished averaging 8.3 points per game. Billips, who joined the team in January, averaged a team-high 13.4 points per game as well as 7.5 rebounds per game. Williams finished the year averaging 9.8 points per game, including a team-high 44 three-pointers.
King was named Second Team All Skyline and First Team All WIAC for the second consecutive year. Williams was named to the WIAC First Team and Houpe was selected to the WIAC Second Team. Coach Chris Mooney was named WIAC Coach of the Year after the women picked up their second straight WIAC Championship.

After claiming the WIAC Conference Championship for the second year in a row, Women’s Basketball Coach Chris Mooney was recently named WIAC Coach of the Year. Coach Mooney has an overall coaching record of 60-44 throughout his four-years with the Women’s Basketball team. Over the past two years, he has amassed a 38-13 record, making appearances in the NCAA and ECAC Tournament.
Three Farmingdale players were selected to the WIAC All-Star team. Karen King (New York, NY/Env. Studies) and Angela Williams (New York, NY/M. Bergtraum) were named to the first team, while Danielle Houpe (Bellport, NY/Bellport) picked up second team honors.

The Rams were defeated by Drew University (14-10) in the first round of the ECAC Tournament 76-59. Farmingdale trailed at the half 41-24 and despite the second half tie of 35-35, was not able to take the victory, ending the season with a 20-7 record. Senior Karen King (New York, NY/Env. Studies) led the Rams in scoring and finished with a double-double in her final game with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks, while Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY) scored 14 points and grabbed 5 boards. Shanell Reliford (Brooklyn, NY/Sheepshead Bay) finished with 6 points, 4 assists and 7 steals.
Drew was led by Jennifer Weldon (Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Courtney Cunningham (Garden City, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) tallied 15 points and 7 assists. Sarah Marquez (Orono, ME/Orono) finished 12 points, 8 steals and 7 assists.

Karen King Named Women’s Basketball Second Team All-Skyline
Deana Ward, Sports Information Director at Farmingdale State, is pleased to announce that Karen King (New York, NY/Env. Studies) has been named to the Skyline All-Conference Second Team for Women’s Basketball. Karen is a senior forward and co-captain of the basketball team, which currently holds a 20-6 record for the 2003-04 season. This year, in their first season in the Skyline Conference, the women were defeated in the Skyline Finals by Mt. St. Mary’s College, who has won the past six years and is undefeated (47-0) in the conference since it began in 1998. Farmingdale has just received a bid to the 2004 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament as the # 5 seed in the Metro Region. They face Drew University (NJ), the #4 seed on Wednesday March 3rd at 7pm.
Karen has played two years at Farmingdale State after transferring from Tallahassee Community College (FL) in 2001. During her two seasons with Farmingdale, she has scored a total of 578 points, averaging 11.3 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game. She led the team in blocks last season with 34, and led the league in blocks this season with 52. Karen led the team to the NCAA Tournament last year in their first year eligible for a bid, where they were defeated by the eventual National Champions Runners-Up Eastern Connecticut State University. In this game, Karen led the team with 18 points and 13 rebounds. During the 2002-02 season, Karen was named the Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) MVP, selected to the Division III Metro First Team and to the ECAC All-Star Second Team. Karen is a Liberal Arts and Sciences major and will graduate this spring. After graduation, she is traveling to the Dominican Republic for a chance to play basketball next year.

Farmingdale (20-6) fell to Mt. St. Mary’s (22-5) 63-39 in the Skyline Conference Finals this weekend, giving the Blue Knights their sixth conference title in as many years. Mt. St. Mary’s was on fire from behind the arc as they hit four three’s in the first half, helping them to a 13-point half time lead 27-14. Kellie Stuart (Massapequa Park, NY) scored a game-high 20 points for the Blue Knights, including 5-for-8 from three-point land.
Angela Williams (New York, NY/M. Bergtraum) led the Rams with 12 points and 2 blocks, Karen King (New York, NY/Env. Studies) finished with 11 points and Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) tallied 7 points and 9 boards.

The Rams (20-5) defeated the Skyline Conference #3 seed Manhattanville (16-11) tonight 75-63. It was a close game throughout as Farmingdale only led by seven points at the half, 36-29. The Valiants kept the deficit to around six points until 4:55 on the clock when the Rams broke out to a 10-point lead. Farmingdale was able to hold the lead until the buzzer, winning by a margin of 12 points. Danielle Houpe (Bellport, NY/Bellport) and Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) both scored 20 points for the Rams, leading their team into the Skyline Finals. Karen King (New York, NY/Env. Studies) finished with 14 points and 3 blocks for Farmingdale, while Melanie Caesar (Brooklyn, NY/M. Bergtraum) grabbed 10 boards and chipped in 8 points.
Manhattanville’s Nicole Terzian (Bronx, NY) scored a game-high 21 points. Kait Herman (Fairfield, CT) tallied 12 points and Kim Reznicek (Dobbs Ferry, NY) finished with 11.

With a commanding lead at halftime 42-22, the Rams were able to hold St. Joseph’s to 20 points in the second half. Farmingdale was led by senior Karen King (New York, NY/Env. Studies) with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 4 blocks, 4 steals and sophomore Angela Williams (New York, NY/M. Bergtraum) with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

Farmingdale State (18-5, 12-2 Skyline) picked up their sixth win in a row with a win over Centenary College (4-20) 66-59. The Rams finished with five players in double figures, as freshman Caress Lovelace (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) was the team leader in scoring with 12 points.
Karen King (New York, NY/Env. Studies), Melanie Caesar (Brooklyn, NY/M. Bergtraum), Angela Williams (New York, NY/M. Bergtraum), and Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) all finished with 10 points on the day. Danielle Houpe (Bellport, NY/Bellport) led the Rams with 5 assists.
Tanyall Law finished with 21 points for Centenary. Solaris Ortiz scored 14 points and grabbed 9 boards. Dana Tobia talled 11 points and 9 rebounds.

Farmingdale (11-2 Skyline) dominated the game tonight against St. Elizabeth’s (10-13) 91-39. With the playoffs coming up next week, the Rams showed they were ready as they shot 53 percent from the field. The Rams led 47-25 at the half and came out in the second to score 44 more points en route to their 17th win this season. Farmingdale almost doubled the Eagles in rebounding as they grabbed 54 rebounds (29 offensive), leading to 34 points scored on second chances.
Angela Williams (New York, NY/M. Bergtraum) led the scoring for the Rams with a game-high 20 points, 6 rebounds and 6 steals. Two double-doubles were recorded by Caress Lovelace (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Melanie Caesar (Brooklyn, NY/M. Bergtraum) with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Bergtraum) also finished with a double-double for Farmingdale, scoring 10 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and also blocking three shots.
Danielle Houpe (Bellport, NY/Bellport) finished with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists for the Rams. Freshman Caress Lovelace (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) totaled 10 points and 6 rebounds.

The Rams (14-5, 4-0 WIAC) defeated the NJCU Knights (5-16, 4-1 WIAC) 59-49, winning their second straight Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship. The league title is based on regular season standings, so as both teams entered unbeaten in WIAC play, the game happened to be the deciding factor for the 2004 WIAC Champions. Farmingdale finished with four players in double figures, led by Angela Williams (New York, NY/M.Bergtraum) who scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the second, helping the Rams pull away from the Knights late in the second half.
Melanie Caesar (Brooklyn, NY/M.Bergtraum) finished with a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. Caress Lovelace (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) tallied 13 points and 5 steals. Taisha Roberts (New York, NY/M.Bergtraum) had 12 points and 3 steals.
New Jersey City’s Dar-Neshia Joyner (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) posted a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Erika Cubile (Jersey City, NJ/Academy of St. Aloysius) and Latrese McNair (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) both recorded 11 points, McNair also added 8 assists.

After falling in the past two games, the Rams (13-5, 9-2 Skyline) were able to return to their winning ways by defeating Lehman College (4-16, 2-8 CUNYAC) 63-45. Farmingdale led 22-20 at the half and was able to turn up the heat in the second as they outscored the Lightning 41-25. Danielle Houpe (Bellport, NY/Bellport) finished with a game-high 18 points, as she was perfect at the free throw line (8-for-8).
Angela Williams (New York, NY/M.Bergtraum) scored 13 points and grabbed 9 rebounds for the Rams. Karen King (New York, NY/Env. Studies) played solid as she tallied 10 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals and 1 block.
The Lightning had a bit of foul trouble with 4 players fouling out. Melissa Escalera (Bronx, NY/Adlai Stevenson) led the Lightning with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Rams (12-5, 9-2 Skyline) lost their second straight conference game today as they were upset by Manhattanville (12-9, 7-2 Skyline) 72-59. Trailing 35-30 at halftime, the Rams were not able to make up the 5-point difference as the Valiants came out in the second only to build upon their lead. Manhattanville hit 24 of their 31 free throws, which proved to be the edge they needed to come up with the win.
Nicole Terzian (Bronx, NY) led the Valiants with 17 points and 6 assists, while Chioma Udeoglanya (Westbury, NY) finished with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Farmingdale’s Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) led the Rams with a double-double of her own, scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Rams Suffer First Conference Loss to Undefeated Mt. St. Mary's

Farmingdale (12-4, 9-1 Skyline) lost their first conference game tonight at the hands of conference opponent Mt. St. Mary's College (14-5, 8-0 Skyline) 63-47. Tonight's game was a fight for first place in the Skyline, as both teams entered the game undefeated in conference play. The Rams led 28-18 with less than two minutes remaining in the first, but the Blue Knights were able to cut their deficit to 28-22 going into the half. Mt. St. Mary's came out flying in the second half going on a 23-4 run during the first eight minutes and led 45-32 with 11:57 remaining. Farmingdale was unable to cut the lead as they trailed by as much as 25 throughout the second. The Rams now stand at second place in the Skyline and Mt. St. Mary's has moved into first place.
Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) led Farmingdale with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Karen King (New York, NY/Env. Studies) finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.

With a slow start in the first half, Farmingdale led at the half 23-13 and was able to come away with another Skyline victory 55-45. Angela Williams (New York, NY/M. Bergtraum) led the Rams in scoring with 13 points and 4 steals. Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) finished the night with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. Melanie Caesar came up with 9 rebounds and 4 blocks.
Ashley Embry (Hempstead, NY) led the Panthers with 16 points and 14 rebounds, shooting 10-for-12 from the free throw line. Christina Squillante (Levittown, NY) finished with 12 points.

Studies) had a balanced game as she scored 13 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, dished out 5 assists and blocked 3 shots. Danielle Houpe (Bellport, NY/Bellport) recorded 9 points, 5 assists, 3 steals and 1 block while she controlled the backcourt for the Rams.
The Rams led at halftime 31-24, but Centenary was able to take a one-point lead at the 14:44 mark in the second. Farmingdale scored 11 consecutive points in the next 2 minutes to take back the lead and led by as much as 15 throughout the second half. Farmingdale’s Melanie Caesar (Brooklyn, NY/M. Bergtraum) grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds (10 offensive) and blocked 2 shots.

Melanie Caesar (Brooklyn, NY/M. Bergtraum) led the scoring in the first half with 10 points, while Karen King (New York, NY/Env. Studies) and Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) both had 8 points at the half. King, Billips, Caress Lovelace (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) and Shakeema Speaks (Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) each scored 8 more points in the second as the Rams came away with the victory.
Billips led with a 16 point, 12 rebound double-double. King had a total of 16 points and 2 blocks. Caesar finished with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds as well as a team-high 3 blocks. Lovelace recorded 11 points and 6 steals.

Jacclyn Rock (Staten Island, NY/New Dorp) led the Dolphins as she finished with game-highs of 28 points and 18 rebounds. Staten Island led at halftime 43-33 and was able to pick up their fourth straight win by holding their lead through the second half.

Womens Winning Streak Halted at Six

The Rams’ (6-2, 4-0 Skyline) winning streak ended at six by number 20-ranked NYU (11-1, 1-1 UAA). The Violets led at halftime 38-16, but it was too much for Farmingdale to overcome as NYU led by as much as 25 in the second and took the victory 73-50.
Rachel Wojdowski (Bethel Park, PA/Bethal Park) collected a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Violets and Stephanie Hunn (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) grabbed a game-high 19 rebounds.
Farmingdale’s Danielle Houpe (Bellport, NY/Bellport) led the team with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals. Taisha Roberts (New York, NY/M. Bertrum) scored 10 points. Karen King (New York, NY/Env. Studies) and Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay), finished the game with 8 rebounds each.

Farmingdale (6-1, 4-0 Skyline) picked up their fourth conference win tonight as they defeated St. Joseph's College (4-5, 0-2 Skyline) 94-54. The Rams were led by newcomer Sharon Billips (Brooklyn, NY/John Jay) who recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Five others from Farmingdale finished in double figures. Caress Lovelace (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) scored 14 points, while Danielle Houpe (Bellport, NY/Bellport) and Karen King (New York, NY/Env.Studies) finished the game with 13. Houpe also tallied a game-high 5 steals. Jennifer McKenzie (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln) netted 12 points and Melanie Caesar (Brooklyn, NY/Bergtraum) ended with 10.
The Golden Eagles were led by Kristen Mando (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) with a game-high 18 points and 7 rebounds. Abigail Konicke (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) also finished with a double-double tonight as she scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Rams Increase Unbeaten Streak to Five

The Rams improved to 5-1 this season as they defeated NYCCT with a final score of 72-41. Farmingdale (5-1, 3-0 Skyline) currently holds first place in the Skyline Conference and is on a five-game winning streak. The Rams shot an overall 56-percent from the field tonight and grabbed 37 defensive rebounds as they overpowered NYCCT (1-6).
Farmingdale finished with four players in double figures, while Senior Forward Karen King (New York, NY/Env. Studies) recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Melanie Caesar (Brooklyn, NY/Bergtraum) led the team with 12 points as she shot 6-for-8 from the field. Jennifer McKenzie (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln) added 11 points for the Rams and Caress Lovelace (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) notched 10 points and 4 steals.
NYCCT was led by Aurora Troche with a game-high 17 points. Camille Manning chipped in with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
The Rams next game is against St. Joseph’s College on January 12th a home game at 5pm.

Farmingdale (4-1) picked up an easy win over SUNY Maritime today 103-24, as six players finished the game in double figures. Jennifer McKenzie (Brooklyn, NY) led the team in scoring with a game-high 23 points as the Rams moved to 3-0 in the Skyline.
The Rams led 55-15 at halftime and held the Privateers to nine points in the second half. Karen King (New York, NY) led the team on the boards with a game-high 15 rebounds and added 14 points to complete her double-double. Farmingdale had a total of 25 steals against Maritime. Taisha Roberts (New York, NY) had an impressive game as she led the team in steals with 10, scored 17 points (8-for-11), grabbed 8 rebounds and dished out 7 assists. Shakeema Speaks (Jersey City, NJ) came off the bench to score 13 points for the Rams. Danielle Houpe grabbed 12 rebounds and led the team in assists with 11.
This was the Rams final game of the semester, as they will resume play on January 5th at NYCCT with a game time of 7:00pm.

Sophomore Center Melanie Caesar (Brooklyn, NY) scored a game-high 22 points as the Rams (3-1) grabbed their second Skyline Conference win of the season. Farmingdale improves their conference record to 2-0 tonight with four Rams scoring in double-figures. King’s Point (3-3) now falls to 1-1 in the Skyline.
The Rams led 41-20 at halftime, shooting 53 percent from the field. Farmingdale’s Jennifer McKenzie (Brooklyn, NY) went 6-for-11 in field goals and finished the game with a double-double (15 points and 12 rebounds). Karen King (New York, NY) and Taisha Roberts (New York, NY) each scored 10 points, while Danielle Houpe (Bellport, NY) played well as she dished out a game-high eight assists, scored 8 points and grabbed 7 rebounds and 5 steals.
The Mariner’s had a rough night finishing 28 percent from the field and 64 percent from the free throw line. Kaitlin Mulgrew (Gloucester City, NJ) scored a team-high 16 points and Marisa Olson (Weatherford, TX) tallied 11 points and grabbed 9 boards.

Tonight's Skyline Conference game was the first home game of the season for the Rams. Shavon Moultrie (New York, NY) and Jennifer McKenzie (Brooklyn, NY) both scored 15 points as the Rams (2-1, 1-0 Skyline) defeated Mt. St. Vincent’s 71-61. The Rams led by only one point at the half as Mt. St. Vincent's Meagan Fitzpatrick (Yonkers, NY) and Andrea DiNizo (Cortlandt Manor, NY) kept it close with 10 points each for the Dolphins.
Farmingdale pulled out in front in the second half with 3 pointers by Angela Williams (New York, NY) and McKenzie. Melanie Caesar (Brooklyn, NY) and Karen King (New York, NY) grabbed a combined 19 rebounds for Farmingdale as they picked up their first Skyline Conference win.

Rams Take Third at Abgott Invitational Tournament
Farmingdale traveled to Buffalo State this weekend for the Betty Abgott Invitational Tip-Off Tournament. The Rams were 1-1 at the tournament, losing their season opener against McDaniel (MD) and defeating Penn State-Altoona in the consolation game.

McDaniel (1-0) took the lead just over a minute into the game and cruised to a 25-point victory over the Rams (0-1). Kristy Costa (Galloway, NJ), Katy Powell (Smithsburg, MD) and Kelly Cramp (Pennington, NJ) finished the game in double-figures, scoring a combined 48 points for the Green Terror. Karen King (New York, NY) led the Rams with 23 points and nine boards, while Danielle Houpe (Bellport, NY) tallied 12 points, five boards and four steals.

Senior Karen King (New York, NY) added nine points and 12 rebounds for the Rams, while Shavon Moultrie (New York, NY) grabbed 10 boards and eight points. Scoring leaders for Altoona (0-2) were Lindsey Barr (Altoona, PA) with 18 points and Erin Shields (Hollidaysburg, PA) with 16.
Farmingdale’s Karen King was named to the All-Tournament Team as she posted a team-high 32 points, 21 rebounds and 5 blocks.
