 The Women's Basketball team finished the season with an outstanding
record of 18-6 and received the College's first ever bid to an NCAA
Championship Tournament. The bid was extra special as the Rams received
an invite in the first year the College was eligible. Farmingdale
lost to eventual National Championship runner up Eastern Connecticut
State University. In addition, the team also captured the College's
first ever WIAC Championship, defeating St. Elizabeth's in the semifinals
and St. Joseph's in the Finals.
Individually, the team was led by Junior Forward Karen King, who
was named WIAC MVP after leading the team in shooting percentage
and finishing second on the team in scoring and rebounding. Freshman
guard Katiana Wright was named WIAC Rookie of the Year after leading
the Rams in scoring and in steals. King and Wright were named 1st
team all-stars. Named to the second team All-WIAC was freshman center
Melanie Caesar, who led the team in rebounding and was third on
the team in scoring.
Wright and freshman guard Angela Williams were named to the All-Tournament
team at the WIAC Playoffs.
Karen King named All-Metro First Team in
Women’s Basketball for Farmingdale State
Mike Harrington, Director of Athletics at Farmingdale State, is pleased to announce that Junior Forward Karen King was recently named to the All-Metro First Team in division III women’s basketball.
King led Farmingdale State to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Tournament in the first year the College was eligible for a bid. She was also named WIAC MVP and a second team ECAC All-Star after averaging 12.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
King scored a team high 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in Farmingdale’s opening round playoff loss to eventual National Championship runners up Eastern Connecticut State University.
Farmingdale State Women's Basketball Team Receives Bid to the NCAA Championship
On the night of March 2nd the College received a bid to the Division III NCAA Women's Basketball Championship. Farmingdale (18-6), played at Eastern Connecticut State (22-4) the following Wednesday night in the first round, receiving an invitation in the first year the College was eligible for an NCAA bid. Eastern Connecticut State was ranked #19 in the Nation. The winner of Wednesday's game advanced to the second round on Saturday, March 8 and played at Desales University which received a first round bye.
The team received the great news while watching the selection show live on campus. The athletic department would like to thank Brian Maher, Richard Hume, George Kraus and Amit Bandyopadhyay for joining us for the selection show.
