Softball Travels to No. 16 Randolph-Macon For NCAA Championship Regional Play

INDIANAPOLIS | The National Collegiate Athletic Association released the 62-team field for the 2022 NCAA Division III Softball Championship on Monday afternoon, and Farmingdale State College will travel this weekend to Ashland, Va., for a four-team regional hosted by Randolph-Macon College.

The Rams (29-3), winners of 12 straight and champions of the Skyline Conference for the third-consecutive time, will face the 16th-ranked host Yellow Jackets (32-9) in Game 2 of the double-elimination regional, Friday (May 13) at 4:30 p.m. Head coach Kevin Proffitt's Randolph-Macon side was an at-large selection to the championship field from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

In the first game of the regional, second-seeded and 21st-ranked Susquehanna University (27-7), who has won nine straight and captured the Landmark Conference title this past weekend, will take on at-large selection Massachusetts Institute of Technology (30-16) at 2 p.m.

Regional play is slated to continue on Saturday afternoon (May 14) with a trio of contests, before the championship final round takes place Sunday afternoon.

Ticket Information for the Regional: Admission for single sessions (all games played on a particular day) is $10 for adults and $7 for students, children over two years of age, and seniors. All-session tickets (all games played throughout the weekend) are $25 for adults and $15 for students, children, and seniors. Tickets will be on sale at the Randolph-Macon Softball Field beginning Friday afternoon, and can only be purchased with cash.

The winner of the Ashland, Va., regional will advance to the May 20-21, super regional round, to play a best-of-3 series against the winner of this weekend's regional at Union, N.J., featuring host Kean University, No. 4 Eastern Connecticut State University, Waynesburg University and Alfred University.

Head coach Liz Pennino's Farmingdale State squad captured the team's ninth Skyline Conference title, and third-consecutive crown, this past weekend by winning all three of its contests by a combined 22-3 count. Senior right-handed pitcher Allie Stanya (Manorville, N.Y.), named the Skyline's Pitcher of the Year on Monday morning for the second-straight season, became the third player in conference history to win multiple tournament Most Outstanding Player awards after tossing a one-hit gem Sunday in the championship final against Manhattanville. She carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, and enters regional play with a 15-1 record, 1.44 ERA and 93 strikeouts over 102 innings pitched.

Stanya was one of seven FSC student-athletes named to the All-Skyline teams, including six first-team selections. Freshman right-handed pitcher/designated player Ava Shorr (No. Babylon, N.Y.) was the Skyline's Rookie of the Year, and went 13-1 in the circle with a 2.00 ERA and 60 strikeouts over 80.1 innings pitched, while batting .274 with 23 RBI at the dish.
