FSC Improves to 15-1 in Skyline with DH Sweep of Purchase

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The FSC softball team improved to 15-1 in Skyline Conference play with a pair of run-rule victories in today's home doubleheader versus Purchase.

Farmingdale State (24-3) captured game one by a score of 8-0.

The Rams used RBI's from sophomore right fielder Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.), sophomore third baseman Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) and senior second baseman Julianna Prescia (Oakdale, N.Y.) in the bottom of the first inning to jump out to a 3-0 advantage.

In the second inning, senior shortstop Jessica Clark (Selden, N.Y.) led off with a single and quickly stole second base. After moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by senior pitcher Allie Stanya (Manorville, N.Y.), senior catcher Lyndsey Shaw (Sayville, N.Y.) knocked an RBI triple to put FSC ahead, 4-0.

Farmingdale State led 6-0 in the fourth after scoring a pair of unearned runs and used a run-scoring single from Prescia and an RBI walk from junior first baseman Brooke Walker (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) to take the eventual 8-0 decision.

Prescia went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and one run scored, while Walker had two hits and two runs scored. Shaw and Giliberti each had two hits and an RBI.

Stanya (W, 11-1, 7 SO, 0 R, 2 H) recorded a hit and an RBI and threw four shutout innings to pick up her 11th victory of the season.

Farmingdale State captured the second game, 13-1.

FSC jumped out to an early advantage on a leadoff home run by Shaw, her eighth of the season. After singles from senior center fielder Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Giliberti, Walker hit a three-run homer over the center field wall to put the Rams in front, 4-0.

Later in the inning, Clark knocked an inside-the-park home run, before Shaw tallied a two-run double to score Stanya and freshman catcher Alyssa Cowen (Franklin Square, N.Y.) to cap off the seven-run first inning.

In the bottom of the second, Walker hit a one-out triple and scored on an RBI double by Prescia. With the bases loaded later in the inning, Cowen hit a single to left field to bring home both Capuano and Prescia to go ahead, 10-0.

The Rams led 11-0 in the fourth before Shaw hit a two-run double to go up by 13.

Farmingdale State allowed an unearned run in the top of the fifth but went on for the 13-1 run-rule victory. 

Shaw registered a home run, two doubles, five runs batted in and a run scored to lead FSC. Walker notched a home run, double, three runs batted in and two runs scored, while Clark went 2-for-2 with a home run, RBI and two runs scored. Prescia had a double, one run batted in and two runs and Cowen finished 3-for-3 with two RBI's and a pair of runs scored.

Freshman pitcher Ava Shorr (North Babylon, N.Y.) (W, 12-1) threw four innings in relief with seven strike outs to earn the win.

Farmingdale State will host Mount Saint Mary College for a doubleheader tomorrow, Sunday, May 1st at 1:00 p.m. in the final regular season games of the season on senior day.
