RIDGEFIELD, N.J. | Freshman pitcher Ava Shorr (No. Babylon, N.Y.) needed just 42 pitches to fire a five-inning, mercy-rule-shortened perfect game Tuesday night at Overpeck Park, helping the Farmingdale State College softball team to a Skyline Conference doubleheader sweep over host Yeshiva University. Shorr's gem sent the Rams (22-3, 13-1 Skyline) to a 12-0 victory in the opening contest, before Shorr and junior Gia D'Andrea (Howard Beach, N.Y.) combined for a five-inning one-hitter in the nightcap, which FSC took by a 9-0 count in five innings.

Shorr's game-one display marked the third perfect game in Farmingdale State history; current FSC senior Allie Stanya (Manorville, N.Y.) turned the feat on May 8, 2021, versus Mount Saint Vincent.

Farmingdale State established control of the opening contest with an eight-run first inning, which was highlighted by a two-run single by sophomore Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.). The Rams added single runs in the second and third frames, before Brooke Walker (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) kicked off a two-run fifth inning with a leadoff, inside-the-park homer.

Shorr fanned seven in the circle, while reaching base in all four of her appearances at the plate (2-for-2, 2B, 2 BB). All nine Rams starters scored at least once in the game, with senior Julianna Prescia (Oakdale, N.Y.) going 2-for-2 and senior Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.) batting 2-for-3. Rivera, Walker, Capuano and freshman Alyssa Cowen (Franklin Sq., N.Y.) drove in two runs apiece in the victory.

In the nightcap, an eight-run first inning set the tone for the FSC offense once more. Senior Lyndsey Shaw (Sayville, N.Y.) ripped a two-run single in her second time to the plate in the frame to highlight the efforts. The Rams added one more run in the top of the second, when a bases-loaded walk issued to DAndrea scored Capuano.

D'Andrea picked up her first victory in the pitching circle, firing four relief innings of no-hit ball, issuing one walk while striking out six Maccabees. Shaw went 3-for-3 in the contest with two RBI, while Capuano, Prescia and freshman Caitlyn Gorey (Wantagh, N.Y.) collected two hits apiece.

Head coach Liz Pennino's side has a pair of home Skyline Conference doubleheaders this weekend to wrap up regular-season play, starting Saturday with a noon twinbill against Purchase College.
