Shorr Tosses No-Hitter as Rams Sweep Old Westbury

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Freshman pitcher Ava Shorr (North Babylon, N.Y.) tossed a no-hitter in game two as the Farmingdale State softball team earned a pair of 8-0 run-rule victories over Skyline Conference opponent Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon. The Rams improved to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the Skyline Conference with the wins.

In the first inning of game one, FSC senior catcher Lyndsey Shaw (Sayville, N.Y.) led off with a single and later scored on an RBI sacrifice bunt by freshman left fielder Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.).

After scoring three unearned runs, Farmingdale State extended their lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning on another run-scoring sacrifice bunt.

In the fifth, Shorr tallied an RBI single and sophomore third baseman Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) hit a two-run double to put FSC in front, 8-0.

Senior pitcher Allie Stanya (Manorville, N.Y.) struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth to clinch the run-rule win. She tossed a complete game shutout allowing just two hits with six strikeouts to improve to 6-0 on the season.

Senior shortstop Jessica Clark (Selden, N.Y.) finished 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored, while Capuano, Shorr,  Brooke Walker (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) and Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.) had one hit apiece.

In game two, Shaw led off with a solo home run over the center field wall, her third of the season. 

The game remained 1-0 until the third inning when Shorr hit a bases-clearing double to increase the lead to 4-0. 

Later in the inning, Clark tallied a two-run single before Stanya registered an RBI ground out to give Farmingdale State a 7-0 advantage.

The Rams tallied their eighth run in the fourth on a double by Giliberti, which scored Shaw. 

Shorr closed out the no-hitter with two perfect innings to earn the complete game shutout. Shorr had three strikeouts with four walks to improve to 5-1 on the year.

Clark went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in, while Giliberti had two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Shaw finished 1-for-2 with a home run, walk and three runs batted in.

The FSC softball team will next play host to Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 9th at 12:00 p.m.
