FSC Sweeps New Paltz in Non-Conference DH

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team swept non-conference opponent New Paltz in a doubleheader this afternoon. FSC earned a 6-1 win in the first game and followed with a 5-2 victory in game two.

The Rams (9-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI single down the right field line by senior shortstop Jessica Clark (Seldon, N.Y.), which scored Ava Shorr (North Babylon, N.Y.). Farmingdale State went ahead 2-0 with a double steal as sophomore second baseman Julianna Prescia (Oakdale, N.Y.) came home.

With one out in the bottom of the third, Shorr hit a 2 RBI single to right center to increase the lead to 4-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Rams went out in front 6-0 on back-to-back RBI singles by sophomore catcher Lyndsey Shaw (Sayville, N.Y.) and sophomore center fielder Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.).

New Paltz (9-7) scored their only run of the game in the fifth inning as the Rams went on for the 6-1 victory.

Shorr was 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and 2 RBI, while Prescia had a pair of hits and scored twice. Clark had two hits in three at-bats, an RBI and run scored in the win. Sophomore pitcher Allie Stanya (Manorville, N.Y.) recorded the victory and improved to 5-0 after tossing a complete game allowing no earned runs on eight hits.

Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning of game two, Shaw hit a one-out triple to right center. In the next FSC at-bat, an RBI groundout to second by Rivera put the Rams ahead, 2-1.

Freshman third baseman Brooke Walker (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run to left field to put Farmingdale State up by two.

The Rams added an unearned run in the fifth inning to take a 4-1 advantage.

In the top of the sixth, junior catcher Jessica Graepel (Woodmore, N.Y.) recorded an RBI groundout to the pitcher which scored Carol Ann Campsey (Commack, N.Y.) and cut the New Paltz deficit to 4-2.

With one out and runners on second and third in the bottom of the sixth, a sacrifice fly by Prescia plated Walker and put FSC on top, 5-2. The Rams held the Hawks scoreless in the seventh inning to cap off the 5-2 victory.

Walker finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of singles and a home run.

Shorr (4-1) earned the win after throwing a complete game allowing two runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.

The Rams next will host Hunter College in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, March 31st at 4:30 p.m.
