FSC Softball Spring Break - Rams Improve to 7-2 Overall

Clermont, Fla. - The FSC softball team wrapped up their Spring Break trip to Florida with five games in the final three days. The Rams picked up four more wins and sit at 7-2 overall as they head home.

Thursday, March 17th

After their games were postponed due to rain on Wednesday, a single game was added against Hamline. 

The Rams led 1-0 entering the fourth and added four runs to take a 5-0 advantage. After allowing two runs in the bottom of the fifth, Farmingdale State scored one in the sixth and four in the seventh for the 10-2 victory.

Freshman right fielder Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.) was 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored, while freshman third baseman Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) had three hits and scored twice. Sophomore catcher Lyndsey Shaw (Sayville, N.Y.) was 1-for-3 with a triple and 2 RBI.

Sophomore Allie Stanya (Manorville, N.Y.) earned the win after pitching six innings, allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts.

 

Friday, March 18th

In the first game of the day against Rutgers-Camden, the Rams earned a 6-1 victory.

In the bottom of the second, sophomore second baseman Julianna Prescia (Oakdale, N.Y.) and senior shortstop Jessica Clark (Seldon, N.Y.) each recorded RBI singles to put FSC ahead, 2-0. After an RBI bunt by freshman left fielder Alyssa Cowen (Franklin Square, N.Y.), sophomore center fielder Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Shaw followed with RBI singles to increase the lead to 5-0.

Each team would add a run later in the game as FSC went on for the 6-1 win.

Rivera, Clark, freshman third baseman Brooke Walker (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) and freshman designated player Ava Shorr (North Babylon, N.Y.) each had two hits for FSC. Stanya earned the win after tossing a complete game, allowing one run on five hits with four strikeouts.

Against Ramapo in the second game, FSC recorded a 3-2 win.

The Rams scored their three runs in the top of the fifth on a Stanya RBI bunt and a 2-run home run by Shaw.

Ramapo scored once in the sixth and again in the bottom of the seventh but fell to FSC, 3-2.

Shorr earned the win after a complete game in which she allowed one earned run on six hits with six strikeouts.

 

Saturday, March 19th

Farmingdale State edged Wisconsin-Stevens Point 12-11 in extra-innings on a Julia Pastrana (Central Islip, N.Y.) walk-off RBI single which scored Gia D'Andrea (Howard Beach, N.Y.).

Trailing 10-8 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Rams pulled to within one on an RBI groundout by Shaw. In the next at-bat, Rivera tied the game at 10-10 on an infield single which scored Clark.

After allowing a run in the top of the eighth, Walker led off the bottom of the inning with an RBI single to even the score at 11-11. Five batters later, Pastrana hit the game-winning RBI single to left field.

Giliberti was 3-for-5 with a double, triple, RBI and three runs scored, while Pastrana went 3-for-4 with a run scored and 3 RBI. Rivera finished the game with three hits, two runs batted in and scored once.

In the second game of the day against Wisconsin-La Crosse, the Rams fell 7-3 and ended their six-game winning streak.

Tied 3-3, Wisconsin-La Crosse scored once in the fifth and three times in the sixth to earn the victory.

Four different players had one hit for the Rams. 

Farmingdale State returns home and next will host Hunter College in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, March 23rd at 3:30 p.m.
